i get this error everytime i try to format my NTFS/FAT32 drive to HFS+/NTFS/FAT32. i could not find much of the info on the web, there are some links but it leads to unsolved problem. it is not a faulty dvd because i have already installed it on my previous machine. i tried everything i could but no results. i am formatting a partition where windows is installed.

how can i solve this problem ?

any help will be greatly appreciated

First hit on google...

...doesn't solve your problem?

What about the last post here:

I could probably help you but it's not at all clear from your post exactly what you're trying to achieve.

I don't like to guess but here's an attempt anyway, if I'm completely off the mark it's your fault. :(

Disk Utility cannot work with NTFS partitions, you should manipulate whatever partitions you have using something that runs under Windows and leave the space you want to format to HFS+ blank, unformatted.

Then boot from your OS X install DVD and use Disk Utility to format it.

Or just buy another hard drive, partition as HFS+J GUID and install OS X on that. It really is the least painful and most compatible way.

Make sure that you use Windows to format the OS X target volume as a primary partition and simple NTFS or FAT32 volume, that Disk Utility can recognise.........then use Disk Utility to reformat it as MS-DOS (FAT) and then reformat it again as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume.........
