donkey
{Resolved; check here for file/kext link post #12} I am currently using a DSDT.aml modified by Brett. I have been using it for a while and in 10.5.7 I had OGL, CI, QE. After Installing Snow Leopard I am left with the following: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Type: GPU Bus: PCIe Slot: PCI Slot 1 PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0407 Revision ID: 0x00a1 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1920 x 1200 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Built-In: Yes Display Connector: Status: No Display Connected I have tried CoreImage, NVDarwin, Netkas's ATY... Can someone help in getting this working? Thank you!

donkey
Are using <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>y</string> on your com.apple.Boot.plist? Just tried it... no difference with regular DSDT or the modified one that I'm using. Any other tips? Why not use Efi string I forgot to mention that.... I used an EFI string but its for 8600 GT not 8600m GT. It works... but it still doesn't give me CI / QE / OpenGL / OpenCL. Do you happen to know where I can get the EFI string for this particular gfx card? I searched all day yesterday and I couldn't find it. The card has HDMI / VGA out / 256Mb. I can provide more info if that helps.
charlyc
Same here when I use GFI string for 8600 GT no QE/CI but with the Graphic Enable I get QE/CI with both I don't get shutdown restart.

Are you using 10.6? If so, do you see something like "CPU / GPU" in the Type section of System Profiler>Graphics/Display? I think that would be a hint that OpenCL is working... I could be wrong tho, I haven't looked around at other people's 10.6 Graphics read-out. I'm going to try Graphics Enabler in the plist along with EFI String. donkey
This issue has been resolved! Apparently, the new Snow Leopard doesn't show individual acceleration ie: CI / QE / QGL / OpenCL in the System Profiler. Thank you Brett for providing your assistance! To test if there is acceleration, of OpenCL and OpenGL, use oclinfo-0.2. Open Dashboard widgets app, if you add an item AND you see the ripple effect then QuartzGL is working, but the best method seems to be oclinfo app, it gives a readout. As far as my setup, I'm using a DSDT only, no EFI, Injectors, or Chameleon's built in GraphicsEnabeler. There are a few DSDT's to try out: Brandon's original DSDT (with USB fixes from Chryasor), There is Chryasor and Brett's modified DSDT which add SpeedStep. If you want to go with a non SpeedStep then you can always add SpeedStep with a new kext, found at InfiniteMac called NativeSpeedStep. I will attach any of the files if requested. spos86
Link would be greatly Apriciated. I have an HP dv9933CL It workks great on Leo but havent been able to get running SL on it. My main concerns at this moment is the DSDT which casues 200+ errors there fore it dosnt compile and a force compile dosnt convince me. On the other hadn, I would love to use EFI strings but how do I get them from a mobile card? All the ones I find are 8600 GT no 8600M. Any help would be arpiciated. By the way the universal injector for Leo by netkas worked for me in Leo is there one for SL?

By the way the universal injector for Leo by netkas worked for me in Leo is there one for SL? The DSDT that I'm listing is specifically for m1530. There are DSDT which are processor specific as well. Unfortunately I don't have the 8600m GT EFI. I used the DSDT to get it working. Secondly, you could try the new PC EFI 10.3 or Chameleon 2 RC3's Graphics Enabler plist option. The NativeSpeedStep should work on any Intel cpu. M1530_DSDT.aml_chrysaor&brandon is a non-processor specific DSDT and will not provide SpeedStep. You can use the attached NativeSpeedStep kext to get processor stepping. So how does one know if you have OpenCL, QE Ci etc? If you have a transparent menubar, if you get ripples when when dropping a new item in Dasnboard, if you're able to play a DVD with DVDPlayer app... In SL these acceleration are not shown under SystemProfiler>Graphics/Display. To test OpenCL, you can use a benchmark app, which is fine... Link but I perfer Open CL Info OpenCL Info I'm using TimmyJ's DSDT because it works with my processor and it offers SpeedStep, Sleep works, 8600m GT works! I haven't tested deep-sleep or camshell-close sleep... Kext I'm using: -AppleACPIBAtteryManager -AppleACPIPS2Nub -FakeSMC v2 -IOATAFamily fix -IONetworkingFamily (marvell yukon mac fix) -Legacy ACPI SMC PlatformPlugin (I forgot what it does...) -OpenHalRestart -VoodooPS2Controller I'm also using smbios.plist Also, none of these files are my creation. Thanks goes out to the hacintosh community. So, Thanks! On another note, I would suggest using kext utility to make extension caches from /Extra and S/L/E and repairs because the system boots a lot faster. ludacrisvp
I have a real big pain in the ass laptop that has dual graphics cards (both 8600m gt 256mb) I can only have graphical acceleration under 10.5.2 with nvinject 0.2.1, no leopard graphics update and efi strings will not work no matter how i tried to work them. OSX sees like 1 card and half of the second card and its just a struggle DSDT mod is most likely my only way to get things fixed.

I just saw it now. I am still struggling with my HP dv9933cl. I have tried different DSDTs and some give me a fully working HDA support, internal speaker and mic and the headphone and mic jaks as well with automatic routing which is awesome, that also enebles speed step and sleep, on the other hand with taht same dsdt i have no GFX meanwhile I have another DSDT where I get fully working GXX but no audio and no Sleep, that just blows. Do you know how I could compile my own DSDT? I been looking for tutorials with absolutly no luck. And the same time I could try to combine both DSDTs, Adding the GFX section to my other DSDT but it dosnt compile!! What about doing from windows? Have you had any succes making your own DSDT.aml???? All help is apriciated!!!! I used the EFI studio to get my 8600GT working. Hi, What string did you use since 8600M dosnt show up..
hf206
I guy, I have spent too much time to get QE/CI working for my 8600M GT on my Asus G2S Laptop (more than 20 hours reading forums and trying things). So here is the situation: - Retailed snow leopard install - 10.6.4 combo update + ##### 2.1.3 for kext and chameleon 2.0 RC4 by AsereBLN v1.1.9 - x64 boot kernel and system - NVDANV50Hal.kext is executed and loaded (information found into /var/log/kernel.log - My 8600M GT is partially installed because it appears in Graphics System Information panel as I get no QE/CI I am not able to use video tools (the aim of my hachintosh install). My desktop is displayed in 1024*768 - My /Extra/com.boot.plist contains nothings special If I try to add these boot flag at chameleon prompt : “-v GraphicsEnabler=yes” , I see nothing different in the startup lines, and I get a sticky black screen before desktop&background display If I try to add these boot flag at chameleon prompt : “-v GraphicsEnabler=yes PciRoot=1” , I see nothing different in the startup lines, and I get a sticky black screen before desktop&background display. If I replace 10.6.4 NVIDIA kexts to 10.6.1 kexts, my desktop is displayed in 1024*768 and no QE/CI If I replace 10.6.4 NVIDIA kexts to 10.6.1 kexts and add these boot flag at chameleon prompt : “-v GraphicsEnabler=yes” , I see nothing different in the startup lines, and I get a sticky blue screen before desktop&background display So what ? Please help me if you have a 8600M GT !

Sunny_sound
I have been trying to get my Nvidia 8600M GT work... Have tried almost everything....Video enabler, PC_EFI, OSX Tools, almost all the DSDT'son this site but I haven't been able to get QE\CI work . I even tried Debugging QE in Xcode but miserably failed. I am really looking for some help. I have my Logic running after removing the preference before install, but as I am into music production, I am not able to get (see) the GUI for a lot of plugins... I wish someone could just login remotely into my comp and check it once. (I know its too much to ask for ) I tried the editing my DSDT but still no success... I am running iATKOS s3 v2 with chameleon bootloader. Dell XPS M1530 T9300 Intel Nvdia 8600M GT
Sunny_sound
Sorry guy to say that but in my case too (all methods have been tried without success). Il have uninstalled the Mac OS X partition. And Il tried to use your distro but when I boot with it, it say something like that "to prevent .... it is better to shutdown" so the PC shutdown without any mac installation graphic process. Till There will be no update of video editing solution on Mac I won't buy / try anyting more. Too much time spent Finally got my card working.... First of all, thanks to Verdant for all the pain he took to reply to each and every message I sent him He sent me a DSDT which sorted the graphics problem....with the Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) from cre8r. Now the only problem I ran into was that after restart, my MAC gave me a kernel panic.... Further examination, I found out that VoodooHDA.kext was creating a problem.. So there I was, with Graphics working but no soundcard...AppleHDA and other stuff dint work at all... I had done a TIMEMACHINE backup right before I had put the DSDT provided by Verdant. So I was safe!!! After a few changes, my OSX got stuck on boot...No matter how long I waited, the cursor kept going round and round and no help I decided to use my time Machine and get back where I was... I did that... The crazy thing after the restore happened was that my QE\CL was enabled even though I dint put the DSDT which verdant gave... After a few hours of research, I found that TIME MACHINE had reset my preferences.. So what had actually happened is that even though I applied the correct DSDT's before, my OSX was full of stupid s*** because of too many changes and my preferences had gone haywire.... The kext permissions would never reset, if I did it manually...I dunno why...Time Machine recovery, sorted that out... After the recovery though, my sound still wouldnt work and I would get kernel panic if I would use VoodooHDA... So then, I got the VoodooHDA installer from here In the above page, you have to download VoodooHDA-2.7.1.pkg.zip This installer, cleaned all the other Audio Kexts which were on my OSX and would conflict with VoodooHDA, which I couldn't figure out manually. It did give a Grey screen of death while in the last process of install, and on the first boot, I got a Grey Screen of Death again. I restarted again and it booted just perfectly. Hola!!!! The sound was on!!! Now the only thing which happened after the TIME MACHINE restore was that OSX would boot in 64bit mode. I still haven't found a solution for this and actually it doesnt bother me much and I boot with arch=i386 if I need as everything works Just fine in 64bit... I think this would be of some help...I am attaching my the DSDT by Verdant which uses the Method by cre8r here . Please note that this is only tested with Nvidia 8600M GT and T9300 processor. It might work with other processors also, but its better to download the DSDT, extract only the Video part and merge it with your existing DSDT in case of processor other than T9300!!! The audio problem I faced also wont be the same for all the users, so please backup your stuff before u start on anything If anyone needs any kind of help regarding OSX on a Dell XPSM1530, please feel free to ask any question, as if not for this forum and Verdant, my Hackintosh would never be the same Cheers!!!
