ATI Radeon X1400 running at 1600x1200 on Inspiron 9400

I've managed to get my Dell Inspiron 9400 running at a resolution of 1600x1200 with an ATI Radeon X1400 graphics card.

I'm using the ATIRadeonX1000.kext and RadeonHD.kext files and have specified a 1920x1200 Graphics Mode in the Boot.plist which has given me the 1600x1200 resolution.

My advice is to specify the highest resolution your screen can handle and then it seems to default to the highest resolution the graphics card can handle.

The only thing that I can't seem to get working is Quartz Extreme. I have enabled Quartz GL using OSX86 Tools but QE is proving to be a bit harder. Any help with this would be extremely appreciated.

I'm running Kalyway 10.5.2 by the way. This seems to be the most stable version for my laptop.

There is no way to get an X1400 working with full QE/CI on an internal laptop LCD screen, only on an external display. You have to use an X1300 driver (which uses the Caretta framebuffer) which is based on a desktop X1300, that has no support for the detection of LCD screens in laptops.

So sorry mate, I feel your pain having a laptop with the same graphics chip, but there's nothing we can do.

mhhhhhhhhhh...............

I have qe+ci on my LCD-laptop. It is possible managing on the ATIRadeonX1000 kext. The very big problem is the resolution (NO MORE 1024x768)

Dear friends

Please send me your Device ID. I try to allow you to use QE+CI on your LCD-Laptop.

At the same time, please, send me also the two kext that allows you to have the good resolution (1600x1024)

I wait your feedback

best regards

Hey Guys

Thanks for the replies. I've attached the two kexts that seem to have helped me achieve 1600x1200x32 resolution on my Dell. Not really sure if the RadeonHD kext is doing much but I couldn't get res this high before I had it. The device ID of the ATI Radeon X1400 is 0x71451002 as seen in the ATIRadeonX1000.kext

I have also attached my Boot.plist which states that I'm specifying a res of 1920x1200x32, which is giving me 1600x1200. Anyway, let me know your thoughts. I can't believe this isn't crackable, there has to be a way to get Quartz Extreme enabled on the internal monitor!! I'll keep trying and re-installing Leopard over and over and over and over......... :-)

Dell Inspiron 9400. ATI x1400. Mac OS 10.5.6.

All done as you say. Maximum of 1152 * 864. How do I configure it correctly?
