walterav
Very interesting... I'll try some test... Have you ad1988b? I read on Asus site you have a most compatible AZALIA HDA... isn't it?? Ciao Taruga rev4 causes kernel panic on shutdown! not on sleep or restart... this is only in systems with ATI hd2600xt and yours I think, because the ati cards has builtin audio for hdmi modus... That is conflicting with apple hda... I also have the same setup except 3870 I use 2600xt. There is a new stickpin method, but the guy who made it did'nt want to release his half finished solution for the 1988b...
BlackCorsair
Thanks mate, I appreciate your contribute So I have to forget my sound? for now, at least... I had just bought one SPEEDLINK 8850 USB for 12€, this should work fine OOB. I will post my experience with it... stay connected, I'll let you know! BlackCorsair
Yes, my new speedlink 8850 works perfectly out of the box... so, i forget my HDA AD1988b and related problems with my HD3870. Good bye, mates, my investigation is finished: AD1988b + ATI HD 2600/HD3870 series won't work!!! Every ati with a HD audio built-in, may have same troubles... or, better, Taruga v4 work perfectly but you have to turn off your box by pushing the big button!!! I don't like this.... mrr
honestly i don't like onboard sound. if you're building a rig for dual-booting into windows for games, check out getting an older sound blaster card and using the kX drivers, or an m-audio card or similar and using the drivers at http://www.audio-evolution.com/drivers/ onboard sound is tinny sounding and noisy and usually uses CPU, grab a decent PCI card and pop it in. most can be had for <$
