Got QE and CI on 8500GT running (10.5.6)

I just thought I'd pipe up and mention that the Original Posters method worked well for my setup

10.5.6

Nvidia 7800 GTX 256MB

I wasn't able to use EFI Studio however, as it didn't have the strings for my card. OSX86Tools however did, and it worked fine in place of EFI Studio in this guide.

That was the last thing annoying me after the 10.5.6 upgrade, so thanks a lot!

:)

I cannot make it work :)

I have a perfectly working Leo4Allv3 10.5.2 (using NVInject), but when I upgrade to 10.5.6 I lose QE/CI and there's no way to fix it: tested with OP's method, using both EFI Studio and OSXTools for the EFI string, to no avail.

I also tried the NVdarwin route but I always end up with no QE/CI, 1024x768 fixed res etc.

I have an Asus 7800 GTX 256 MB.

Any suggestion is much appreciated!

OK, I've been trying to get my Geforce 8500GT to work with 10.5.6 iPC:

Gigabyte M61PME-S2

AMD Athlon 64 x2 4850e

3GB RAM

Geforce 8500GT 512MB

Chipset: Nforce 430

Built-in Video and Audio disabled

Voodoo 9.5.0

AppleNForceATA

nforceLAN drivers (working)

That's pretty much it. I'm able to boot into Leopard, ethernet is working, but the video card is not recognized. I am not really sure how to proceed. I have tried the method listed above, I've tried NVInject and NVdarwin. I have seen people mention adding device id's into the info.plist of the kexts, but I have no idea where to enter it within that file. The device ID in System Profiler is 0x0421, but I don't see in the info.plist where to put it. I don't even know if it will work, but I'm willing to try whatever.

UPDATE:

Did a fresh install with the same specs as above and used pcwiz Universal Installer to add EFI...Got black screen when attempting to rebbot...booted into single user mode and removed all nvidia kexts to get back in...system profiler still lists the EFI string, but no qe/ci and limited to the one 1680x1050x32@60hz resolution(set up in Universal Installer).

I am wondering if I need to add the NVCAP somwhere? Also, since I am using AMD should I use the CPUs=1 fix and could that have something to do with the video card issue?

Also, installed Envy24 package to use my Audiophile 2496...working perfectly..

FINALLY WORKING!!!!

OK so after trying endless combinations and reinstalls, etc., I was finally rewarded by seeing my menubar popup translucent, and I confirmed in system profiler that yes, QE/CI are enabled. So for posterity, here is what it took:

Hardware:

Gigabyte M61PME-S2

Chipset nforce 430 (MCP61 ethernet)

onboard sound and video DISABLED

Zotac PCIe nVidia 8500gt 512MB

Acer x223w LCD monitor (widescreen) DVI input

M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI

100GB HFS+ partition on a 1TB SATA drive

OSX86: iPC 10.5.6 Final

Optional installs:

Kernel: Voodoo 9.5.0

Chipset: AppleNforceATA

Video: NVinject 512MB

Audio: Envy24

Ethernet: nForceLAN

Fixes: Seatbelt, SMBIOSEFI

Bootup after install with this combination gave me a desktop at the correct native resolution 1680x1050, with all options showing up in the desktop screen, no QE/CI support. I then used the Universal Installer to install OSX86 essentials kexts, and added EFI string for my card. Then, before reboot, I opened up the info.plist for the NVinject.kext in my Extensions folder and added my device ID. Then I rebooted and BOOM.

After several attemts I still got my nvidia running... how?

1.) rebooted with -s option

2.) mount -uw /

3.) changed to Extensions : cd System/Library/Extensions

4.) deleted all Geforce and Nvidia-, NVinject-, NVDarwin-, NVKush- etc. kexts & caches

by: rm -r Ge*.* && rm -r NV*.* && rm -r ../Extensions.mkext

5.) rebooted & logged in with standarddisplay (no additional drivers!!!)

6.) installed 9f23installer with efistudio : http://scottdangel.com/blog/?page_id=20

7.) before rebooting opened efiStudio and chose my nvidia card with the right memory.

8.) saved it in the com.apple.Boot.plist.

9.) rebooted and crossed my fingers!!!

I did a complete new iAtkos v7 installation (10.5.7) and used this story for the same Gfx-Card AND IT WORKED WITHOUT ANY ERRORS! But you have to do all steps as described above! Maybe you really have to delete ALL the KEXTs and I think it's important also the cached MKEXT!!! Don't reboot after the Gfx insatallation, first use the efistudio!

See my new results: :(

I also have the same problem. I've installed IPC OSX86 10.5.6 on my desktop computer. Lan and Audio are working but my NVIDIA 8500 GT 512 is not working. i have tried installing NVinject-, NVDarwin-, NVKush but still no success and only got blue screen.

i tried downloading the file 9f23installer on this link : http://scottdangel.com/blog/?page_id=20 but it is showing "Download Temporary Unavailable" for the past 3 days.

Is there anymore link for this file?

I'm a newby on intalling Mac and i just followed some video tutorials and forum instuctions.

Can someone help me on this. thanks.

I'm running an MSI 8500GT 256MB on iAtkos V7, and I ran thru the instructions, and after I fought my mouse (which was running at warp speed), to switch to 1680x1050, it switched properly but everything looks ghosted? Like an old fashioned TV that had the ghosting affect. This is with the VGA connector, the DVI connector with a dvi to vga adapter or straight dvi into my lcd both just gives me a black screen like it's not initializing the monitor.

Ideas?

Thanks!

YOOOO I got this working with Quadro FX 1700. I have a P5q Deluxe modo and used the latest 2201 firmware, iPC 10.5.6 upgraded to 10.5.7.

I've been going nuts and tried everything. I already have the correct device settings in my boot.plist and as soon as I removed all drivers as said above in the quote, rebooted and installed this 9f23installer, rebooted and wham....this is what I got....

This works fine for me on an EVGA 8500 GT 1gb, but I still cannot seem to get any video over DVI past the Apple loading screen. I just get the black screen and nothing happens.

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks Mondi,

I downloaded and tried 9f9installer.pkg on my nvidia 8500 gt 512 and it is now working perfectly on IPC OSX86 10.5.

Any Idea how can activate the TV output of my graphics card?

Sorry, for TV out no idea :-( but dual monitoring is working :-)
