Asus P5QC Mobo, assistance needed

18 posts in this topic

I have been searching here and the wiki and been unable to locate what method I should be using to install OSX on my new system.

System Specs:

Asus P5QC Mobo

Q6600 Processor

8 gigs of G-Skill DDR2 1066

I have read about iDeneb not to mention the more popular install methods so anyone with similar setup or experience that could point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey there.

I two am working on trying to get my P5QC motherboard install working perfectly.

Here is what I have figured out thus far:

1 - No way around it, need the hacked bios for your board.

2 - Don't use IDE drives. Make sure your HD and DVD/CD drive are SATA.

3 - Set your IDE settings in the bios to AHCI.

4 - Disable the onboard NIC and IDE device. Get yourself an add in NIC like a Netgear GA311 (works OOTB).

Here is a quick write up I've been working on based off the iDeneb 10.5.5 release. It as links to the drivers I used for most everything.

Hardware:

Motherboard: Asus P5QC (BIOS is hacked version 1406, see below)

CPU: Intel Dual Core 3.0GHz

Harddrive: 1 x Segate 500GB (SATA)

CD/DVD: Pioneer DVD Drive (SATA)

Video: Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT 256MB

Audio: RealTek ALC1200 (onboard)

Network:

Software:

iDeneb 1.3: Check your favorite torrent site or news groups.

P5QC 1406 hacked bios: http://www.osxcores.site50.net/index.html

AFUDOS 2.11: Google search for it and download.

Kext Helper: http://www.cheetha.net/Kext_Helper/Software.html

Audio Kext: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=38967

DOS bootable floppy: Make one or Google search for one.

10.5.5 OSX86 Tutorial From a Mac n00b:

BIOS Settings:

Main -> Storage Configuration -> Configure SATA as = AHCI

Tools -> Drive Xpert Control = Disabled

Tools -> Express Gate = Disabled

Advanced -> Onboard Device Configuration -> Marvell IDE = Disabled

Advanced -> Onboard Device Configuration -> Atheros GigaBit LAN = Disabled

Boot -> Boot Device Priority = 1:Removable Device, 2:DVD Drive, 3:Hard Drive

Options to Select during install:

Patches 10.5.5 Ready -> Chipset -> ICHx Fixed

Patches 10.5.5 Ready -> Video -> NVidia -> NVKush

NOTE: NVInject also worked for my setup but Kush gave less errors at boot.

Updates for NVKush can be downloaded from: http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/

Basic Prep and Install:

- Create bootable floppy.

(It will be tight but you should have enough room for the bootable stuff, flash utility and the hacked rom.)

- Copy AFUDOS 2.11 to floppy.

- Copy the 1406.ROM to floppy.

- Boot to floppy and flash the BIOS.

(You need the older version of the flash utility as the flash untility on the motherboard will not let you downgrade or replace a BIOS with the same version.)

- Enter "afudos /i1406.ROM /n" to flash the BIOS.

- Reboot the system (I did a full power off).

- Enter the BIOS and set the settings noted above.

- Put your iDeneb DVD in the drive.

- Reboot.

- When prompted to boot from DVD, hit F8 and enter "-v", then press enter to boot into the install.

- From here you should pretty much follow any OSX install guide to install the software.

NOTE: Make sure to select "Customize" and select the options above changing the video card to match yours!

- Reboot when prompted.

- Enter your information if you wish.

Audio Install:

- Copy Kext Helper to your desktop.

NOTE: I used a USB stick to get the program and driver files to the system since we have no ethernet yet.

- Drag and drop the two audio kext containers onto the Kext Helper icon to launch.

- Enter your password and select "Easy Install".

- Reboot.

- Audio should be working now.

Great info found here for the P5QC, It is thank to this post that I was able to setup my OSx86. BUT i did make minor changes:

BIOS Settings:

Main -> Storage Configuration -> Configure SATA as = AHCI

Tools -> Drive Xpert Control = Disabled

Tools -> Express Gate = Disabled

Advanced -> Onboard Device Configuration -> Marvell IDE = Disabled

Advanced -> Onboard Device Configuration -> Atheros GigaBit LAN = Disabled

Boot -> Boot Device Priority = 1:Removable Device, 2:DVD Drive, 3:Hard Drive

All those in red, for me, I did not change. They're all Enabled

Also my on board NIC was working at boot up. :thumbsup_anim:

Now I just need to figure out how to have Dual boot for my Vista 64 and OSx86.

OMG! this is great. Finally a MAC that has unlimited possibilities of upgrades!

I wish Apple would get it!

Thanks a million Spunky03 and all those sharing the P5QC info.

:pirate2: :thumbsup_anim: :pirate2:
