Warstrong
Hi, I've been trying to install osx86 on my PC for the last few months and probably put five times the effort of the average person so far. Anyway, my Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 motherboard isn't working, and rather than buy a new 8600GT and hope that my problems were related to the onboard video (which I'm using), I figure it's more effective to just buy another motherboard for now that will work great with osx. So, I have about $60-$90 to spend on a new socket AM2 motherboard, and I need it to support SATA2, IDE, my DDR2-800 RAM, and onboard video that will handle the basic features of osx (it's going to be sub-temporary because I'll get a dedicated vid card soon after getting this). I'm going to keep looking around, but I haven't found a page with a largely recommended osx86 motherboard that is socket AM2. How can a 2.8GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2GB RAM, and a fast 250GB SATA drive go on much longer with windows xp installed?!? lol, thanks! EDIT: Just so you know, I already have these disks: Zephyroth 10.5.1 iAtkos v1.0ir2 Kalyway 10.5.1 Kalyway 10.4.something thanks again, please reply! basketcase3000
Iv'e had no problems whatsoever with my Asus M2N-E SLI. You can pick one up for about $80 at newegg. I haven't yet got the 5.1 sound to work (although stereo works just fine out of the box with Zephy 10.5.2). Nice board with some good features and a fairly reasonable price. SATA, IDE, Audio, USB, Ethernet all works fine out of the box with a Zephyroth 10.5.2 install. Highly recommended. edit; sorry missed the bit about onboard video. I'd advise you to go for an Asus board anyway, as they tend to have very good compatibility with Leopard. Warstrong
Well I don't know if I need another board just yet. My motherboard has people that have gotten it to work without much trouble, but they were doing one thing different: avoiding SATA hard drives for installation. My board has an nForce 430, and I guess SATA is known to be flaky for it. Anyway, today I got a new USB external hard drive and it's 250GB Hopefully that will fix all my problems (I could never install to my SATA hard drive because it got an I/O error every time I tried to do something. This really needs to work If it doesn't though, I think I'm just going to have to return this USB drive and save up for another amd motherboard (or maybe I'll have to go for the intel mobo and cpu). Anyways, thanks again and your suggestions will still be looked for Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/99900-socket-am2-amd-mobo-cheap/#findComment-717196 Share on other sites
