I have a machine with Kalyway 10.5.1 on it (Gigabyte GM945/HD2600XTRadeon).

With the 9.2.0 vanilla kernel, the system sleeps, restarts and shuts down cleanly.

The Finder however is a pig - apps hang and cannot be force-quit.

I install Kalyway 10.5.2 from disk.

The install, with the modbin kernel, works fine - the Finder works, and the machine sleeps etc correctly.

And then it starts misbehaving.

Login time - I get a blue screen for 4 minutes while loginwindow.app decides what it is doing. The console error messages are the same as on an iMac I have, so no joy there.

I have another duplicate partition - never used ie clean install - same behaviour.

Then the machine stops turning off, ie going to a low power state, during sleep or shutdown.

So I change kernels -modbin>kabyl>ToH 9.2.0 to 9.2.2?vanilla 9.2.0>9.2.2.

No change.

I clear system caches on one partition, and the boot delay goes.

The boot delay returns after I plugged in an iPod. I clear system caches - no effect.

I haven't been successful with booting the kalyway 10.5.2 dvd on my 780i

but your hang at the blue screen / login app aka spinning hash marks problem I think can be solved by modifying your plist in your video driver kext with your values. here's mine below (not sure if its different for ati cards)

<key>IOPCIClassMatch</key>

<string>0x03000000&0xff000000</string>

before

<key>IOPCIMatch</key>

but there's a huge thread in the graphics section for your line of video card and leopard: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=94090

For the other oddball behaviours, when you swap kernels have you been trying other system kexts ? other applesmbios kexts? if no, start there
