geolaw
This has been my first somewhat success of installing OSX on various machines, Vmware, etc... I am coming from using a Macbook Pro at my last job for almost a year and really miss it, so I am glad to be back working on a Mac. My hackintosh goes to show that you don't need the latest and greatest components : Radisys LS855 Motherboard with 1.6 GHZ Pentium M Intel 855GME Chipset with ICH4 1 GB RAM onboard video disabled Nvidia 6200 256 MB Video (using Titan) AC97 Audio (using ADI1980AC97 I think) Intel NIC (using Intel82557) I installed from the XXX 10.4.11 DVD into Vmware under XP onto a USB drive on another computer, then booted this machine up with it and after adding the Titan kext, I was able to go all the way up to 1920x1440 on a 19" CRT. Initially I was getting full QE and everything (the "splash" effect when adding a widget was awesome), but some where along the way it seems to have stopped working. Audio - I added 2 AC97 packages from the install DVD : ADI1980AC97.pkg and AtiSB400AC97Audio.pkg. Quiet honestly, I am not sure which one made the sound work, all I know is I rebooted and had sound. Now for my problem... Every now and then I get crashes... Disk Utility will crash if I go to the "Partition" tab, iChat crashes pretty regularly. Safari every once in a while. Entourage crashed the first couple times as well, but started up fine last time. iDVD crashes everytime Toast 9 - initially this also crashed everytime I started it, however now it just seems to hang. iDVD shows : Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000064 Safari : Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xa097e785 Entourage : Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x59bb7902 Disk Utility : Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x81ff47ab iChat : iChat.crash.log:Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) iChat.crash.log-Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xd914e1a3 iTunes, System Profiler, etc... works but every once in a while I get a crash showing pretty much one of these 2 errors (invalid address or protection failure). Any suggestions are appreciated TIA -- George my "dmesg" shows : hi mem tramps at 0xffe00000 PAE enabled standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us vm_page_bootstrap: 252876 free pages mig_table_max_displ = 71 Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 opcodes ACPI CA 20051117 [debug level=0 layer=0] AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=0 LocalApicId=0 Enabled AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicId=1 LocalApicId=1 Disabled Copyright © 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993 The Regents of the University of California.
