I'm a Linux idiot. Usually there's some crudimentary partition resizing utility supplied with Linux, sometimes you're given the option of using it prior to installing the OS.

 

Assuming that's the case, that should do the trick. However, also use whatever partition manager they supply to make the new partition after you have shrunk the NTFS one. (I'm not even sure if the Linux community has worked out shrinking NTFS, frankly.)

 

Assuming you made space, create a partition and make its id AF. This will make a volume that the OS X Installer > Utilities > Disk Utility will recognize as a name like disk0s2, which you can click on, erase, and give a more meaningful name.
