As far as I know, the 10.4.3 8F1111A with JaS v4.2b patch has the best support yet for SATA of all types. However I know from experience that the nForce 3 chipset SATA is not supported. From what I read on here, other nForce chipsets have the same problem. Your best option may be getting an old (or purchase a cheap new) PATA IDE drive. Not only will it be supported, but if dual booting, you'll have the added advantage of having OS X on its own physical drive.
