sunlite
hi, what i wanted to do is to have mac osx and win xp installed on my dell xps notebook. moreover i wanted to have dell media direct installed on the same machine. for that i first created 2 partitions with dell media direct-cd. dm created these two partitions (fat32) and two further partitions for dell media direct. after that i started to install mac osx on the first fat32-partition. for that i erased this partition and made a journaled hfs-partition. then i installed mac osx and ... it worked. but i am already able to load the mac osx-system when the mac osx-install-cd is in the cd-drive. if i put out this cd an error-message tells me: "error loading operating system". hmm. that's the problem. what can i possibly do? i marked the hfs-partition as the active partition. the second partition is empty at this time. that's the partition where win xp should be installed after mac osx works fine. or i think the mac osx does not have a bootsystem. usually mac osx has something like a bootsystem. but this is missing more or less. hmm. i used mac4all v2. how can i fix this problem? maybe i should install win xp now and inside of winxp i should install something like a bootmanager which starts the macosx when selecting this partition. if you have any ideas i will be very thankful Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/97736-dual_booting-on-dell-xps-1530-notebook/ Share on other sites
sunlite
hmm. ok. i tried to install all: mac osx, win xp and direct media but i think at this time it's not possible to handle this. the way it works is without installing direct media. macgirl
Yes it is possible. -Install Direct Media (from CD, it reparttions the disk) -Install xp (and Direct Media program) -Repartion wint any Partition manager, shrink the XP partition to allow space for Mac OS, made a Fat32 partition there. -Install Mac OS (format the Fat32 to HFS+). The error appears because a non bootable partition was activated. What I didn't test is to Have Media Direct on a GUID disk.
