Root Device error

Hi there, i have spent many weekends trying to get Leopard installed on my system now but still cant get it working.

I've tried several versions including Kalyway, Brazil and iATKOS but still cant get into the installation menus as it wont go past the Darwin menus.

The most common error i have got i "waiting for root device" and then it just stays there for quite a while. I think it might be something to do with the SATA hard drive but i am not sure.

My systems specs are:

Intel Core2Duo(E6600) - 2.4GHz

Motherboard - Asus P5N-32 SLi

320Gb S-ATA Samsung hard drive

and also my dvd drive is connected using IDE.

Can I install Tiger on my pc first and then update to Leopard without formatting as this may save time and may have better chances of working.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
