NS91
Ok, so I originally started off with the guide on i-hacked.com, but they don't cover dual booting in there, so I want to use a guide that covers dual booting. The problem is, every guide that i've seen that deals with dual booting requires me to download "tiger-x86.tar.bz2", but I've already downloaded the "Marklar-Tiger.dmg" (which was later converted to an .iso). My question is, can I follow a different guide that requires me to download "tiger-x86.tar.bz2", but use my "Marklar-Tiger.dmg (now .iso)" instead? Or, is there a guide that covers dual booting while using the Marklar-Tiger image already? Thanks in advance for any help! Mac OSX Coder
Im not 100% sure on this, but I don't think you can. I personally would just download tiger-x86 file. The ihacked guide is a good one, but i believe it's just a torrent of the DEVELOPER DVD. Just download the other file, it's not that big. NS91
^ Yeah, I'm downloading the other thing now, I'm gonna use this guide to install it: http://www.slikone.com/ocbb/viewtopic.php?sid=&f=7&t=68 Has anyone used this guide? Would anyone reccommend using it? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help. R. Bear Helms
Deadmoo is 10.4.1, few people are using it these days cuz 10.4.3 can be made under Windows, but does need a couple utilities, one to translate the DMG format file into ISO without wrecking the data, and another to patch the ISO data so it becomes a very easy to install (VMware or not) bootable DVD. Darwin is a works-like friendly precursor to OS X, so it seems their info there is correct. NS91
^ I was wondering why that guide had no mention of a patch or anything like that. So, should I go with a different guide that will tell me how to patch it and all that? Thanks for the help. R. Bear Helms
Use the googly search technique to locate the Jedi Master, Maxxuss. He has a blog and about 4 mirror sites, all of which describe 10.4.3 using a very simple get-the-dmg, convert-to-iso, patch, burn 4-step technique. He doesn't supply the utilities for converting to ISO or burning, not to mention no link to the 10.4.3 torrent, but does have a PPF patching program, a MD5 checker, and the PPF patch file which converts that 10.4.3 ISO into a boot-and-install OS X for PCs. Parition prep is often overlooked, and people who try and get partitions made or changed using Disk Utility on the OS X disc end up losing all their data on the drive. Again yet another utility to find - a partition resizer... unless you do have a new/empty drive you can format fresh for OS X. Assuming you shrank a Windows partition, you use diskpart under Windows XP to make an OS X compatible partition - procedure in "Technical FAQ" of the Wiki. This actually is work needed for 10.4.4 as well - save for MOST of the 10.4.4 stuff released thus far needs an already working OS X system to boot and run stuff on. Therefore, 10.4.4 is too ambitious for a first time install, and 10.4.3 tends to be the nicest middle ground today between the initial complicated efforts and the upcoming simplified efforts yet to be invented. jdxxx
All the tiger-x86.tar.bz2 related guides are way "out of date" -- that was oriented to the very first crack way back in Summer of 2005 (can you remember that far back?). The guide at http://www.macadell.com is a very simple walk-through. If you have a .iso with the Jas4b already installed, it is even easier. Nontechnical, but covers the bases in an amusing way. Start with a 10.4.3 install. These are easy, if you have the patched install disk.... NS91
^ Yeah, I realized that last night, so I'm gonna use the profit42.com guide for 10.4.3. I have one question about that though. It says that I need a diskette with spfdisk... the problem is, I don't have a floppy drive, because I'm working with a new laptop. My question is, can I put spfdisk on a CD and use it, or is it strictly for floppies?
