Hi guys,

first of all I really tried to search the forum for answer. :)

Yesterday I downloaded the DVD ISO with patched Mac OS 10.4.3. I've checked MD5 and it seems to be correct. I've burned it (again I am pretty sure that the DVD is fine)

Since I tried to boot from DVD, my laptop stopped immediately with this error:

com.apple.boot.plist file not found.

So I thought that I have problem with DVD, so I tried the same DVD in my desktop computer, which is unfortunately only SSE (you know, Athlon XP - Barton core), but the DVD started and showed me some errors regarding missing SSE2 instructions, which is correct I think. So for me it is almost proof that DVD is fine.

What could be wrong with my laptop? It is Centrino Pentium M 740, Intel graphic card 900 and DVD-RW burner, 512 MG DDR2 Ram. And of course it supports SSE2.

Thanks very much. I am really confused from that.

Martin

the com.apple.boot.plst is a file with booting instructions.

u should find it on the dvd in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration... if it is not there try to get it and place it in there... (on win using transmac)

and the sse3 compatible {censored} is importent if u did not patch it with sse3 emulator.. so if u use on 10.4.3 the orig. kernel u should have at least sse3, nx/dx, pae supported cpu

Hi!

As far as I can remember, it's a problem with PAE (a line to add in a config file I can't remerber the name) I solved it copying the com.apple.boot.plist file the to root level of the iso.

wtf? u solved what with what? why is everybody crazy in here? eh?

Acer Travelmate 4150

Pentium M 1.5 GHz "DOTHAN" - sse2

1.24 GB ddr2 ram

DVD/CD-RW

This is the one i have, "osx86 10.4.3 8f1111 fully patched with ati acceleration, rosetta, sse2 patches"

ok sucker =) pm me email.. i send u something with instructions (i hope u still have original dmg and ultraiso)

Am I crazy ?! lol

I just copied the file to the root directory /

And it worked (I think... I can't remember precisely)

never mind.. but the com.apple.Boot.plst is for shure not in the root directory.. it is /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and u wont solve kernel instructions by copy this {censored} to the root

The thing is, the DVD boots up fine when i use it on my desktop. I burned it to a DVD-R disc, should I try burning it to a DVD+R? Thanks....

When i boot it up on my desktop, I see the apple logo and installation can start. On my notebook, that doesnt happen. It just gives the error message.

I have seen this problem before. Your laptop's DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive might not be able to read all DVD formats (-R, +R, etc) or it might read them, but not very accurately, and produce errors. Many people have had this problem - especially with laptops. See my posts on this Page, post #6

:(

I think that the problem is elsewhere.

I have almost the same notebook as user xbcrguy182x. I have Acer TravelMate 4652 LMi. I think that major difference is only in BlueTooth between my laptop and his laptop.

The problem is by my opinion with DVD-+RW DL and especially how it is connected to the mainboard. Maybe I am wrong, but Windows recognize the DVD burner as removable device (not medium of course) and in Windows is in system tray small icon "Safely remove the hardware". Probably you know this icon with USB Flash Disks or digital cameras etc. And of course there is my DVD-RW drive as option.

Installation Mac OS itself:

The booting is started correctly and everything is fine, but immediately after that (next two seconds) the communication is lost between installator and DVD-RW drive. And this is the reason, why the file is missing.(again only my opinion). Even I can't see the gray screen with small moving circle. The installation is really stopped in the beggining.

The DVD+R medium is really fine, because I tried this medium at company PC (intel platform also) and the complete! installation was successfull. Just network is not working (Broadcom chipset), but it's "normal". The same DVD medium I lend to my colleague and he installed it at home computer without any problems also(AMD64 platform).

The DVD burner in my laptop is fine, because I can read everything and almost everything I can burn (except DVD-R DL).

The version of the Mac OS is 10.4.3 8F11111g with the latest patches of Jas (version 4.2b) and the MD5 check sum is the same as I found here in forum.

Sorry for my english. I am not native speaker. I just learn.

If you have any recommendation, it will be really appreciated.

Thank you all of you, guys. Sometimes small help can make happy other people. :-)

Hi again, I tryed it with a DVD-R disc and the same thing happens. Is there anything else I can do? When I press F8, I can get into the Darwin prompt. There is only one thing that I can boot from and thats the network. Is there any commands I can type to try and boot from the DVD? thanks

Im not sure, but have you tried pressing F8 and then typing the name of your kernel file ie. mach_kernel

I think, think being the key word, this will work, I remember having some sort of problem with it, and vagually remember that working. No idea why or how though.

I was having the same problem when I patched the unpatched DVD images myself. I never got around fixing it. The DVD would boot successfully only once every 10-15 tries (This needed a lot of patience). I didn't have any such problems with the pre-patched DVD images.

That didnt work either..... :P Anyway, I did manage to get my hands on the deadmoo image and I installed that perefectly. However its 10.4.1 and I rather have it installed natively. Any more ideas?

Have you been replacing the original kernel file when you add in Maxxuss's kernel? If so try renaming it so something like mach_kernel.cpuid

I'm sorry, I know I have experienced this before, but it wasn't a major issue, ive seen it once or twice, and I can't remember how it happened or how I got round it.
