mogley
Well here it goes, I was able to install OSx86 10.4.3 with little or no trouble at all on my AMD 3000+ laptop. I am trying to install 10.4.4 but i am stuck on, something stupid, I am only just getting into mac so my knoledge of the file system is limited. I am at number 3 of step 1 of maxxuss's directions, I cannot tell whether my recovery.dmg is in the /Volumes folder, it is mounted on my desktop and I am lost on what pathed bootloader files i am supposed to be copying and where exactly /usr/standalone/i386 is? I have the patch kit and have patched the mach_kernel, but that is a far as I got. If someone could give me a simple explanation on wht to do that would be great. mogley
yeah I am here, okay, so my dmg is in the right spot, but what about the patched boot files and the /usr/standalone/i386 folder? thank you for the quick response Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9618-1044-installation-confusion/#findComment-59878 Share on other sites
Tush
If you go to ur 10.4.3 volume, the usr folder is hidden, thats why you dont see anything like that Try to use mucommander, and with that you will be able to copy to usr/standalone/i386 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9618-1044-installation-confusion/#findComment-59880 Share on other sites
mogley
okay thanx, but what files should i be copying there ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9618-1044-installation-confusion/#findComment-59886 Share on other sites
Tush
But if u use 10.4.3 build 8f1111/8f1111a I dont think u have to copy anything, because its still there On max site there was a link to "patched boot loader files", but his site is down so u should try this instead having them And make sure you are having the "Packages" folder on the top-level of ur 10.4.3 volume. It means "./" The simpliest way to do this: for example if you copied the Packages folder onto ur desktop, simply drag it into ur 10.4.3 volume icon This step is very important Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9618-1044-installation-confusion/#findComment-59894 Share on other sites
mogley
one more question. how did you create your second partiton to install 10.4.4, i just tried and i mess up my 10.4.3 installing so know i am in the process of reinstalling Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9618-1044-installation-confusion/#findComment-59937 Share on other sites
Tush
Sorry for the delay, but this forum didnt work me for hours. All I can say, creating a new partition next to an existing one is very dangerous.I already had 2 partitions, so I just had to earase the other. So the best thing is to create 2 empty partitions, and then to install 10.4.3 first, and 10.4.4 after that. Tush
Hi again. As probably you realized, it is possible to make an installable 10.4.4 dvd for now. At the moment that is the easiest way to get 10.4.4 running. mogley
I am having issues with that installer, i have made two costers so far, fisrt one got stuck right of the bat saying my hardware was not supported, fix that issue by replacing the bootfiles with Max patched bootfiles but the second time it loaded but about 2mins in i stated to get a bunch of segment errors and I never get to the installer. Tush
All I know about installing 10.4.4 to AMD from an install dvd is, when darwin boot loader appaers, you have to get to single user mode first /typing -s/ and then you need to patch ur system AGAIN from there. I know a couple of people who had success with AMD, but a lot more who didnt. If you cannot get through this, wait for a generic install dvd which supposed to be out soon. (Or try to install from 10.4.3.Thats not so complicated) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9618-1044-installation-confusion/#findComment-62773 Share on other sites
