dgoradia
Ok so i've searched this forum for nearly a month now to no avail so i thought i'd just start one. I have to hard drives on me laptop. One with Windows Vista and the other hard drive with OS X. When i look at the partitions through vista using the disk management tool, it shows as follows. HDD 1 a. Vista b. HP Recovery... HDD 2 a. EFI (I think) b. Mac OS X To boot into mac i have to put HDD 2 into the first position on my laptop and to boot into Vista i have to change the hard drives again. I've tried EasyBCD, tried the chain0 method by using the bcdedit command in cmd prompt. Can anybody advise me to how i can get this working. P.S. I had vista already installed on the first hard drive and i formatted the whole 2nd hard drive for os x. macgirl
If you have EFI/GUID the only option to boot from another drive is GRUB with boot_v8, if you don't have EFI/GUID you can use chain0 method or the Easy BCD option to boot Mac OS. For GUID/EFI: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=85508 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95560-2x-sata-vistaos-x-dual-boot/#findComment-682374 Share on other sites

Install, then shrink your XP partition and create a new primary partition out of the space. Install OS X onto it. Perform any needed data migrations, etc. Then mark OS X's partition as active (cmd, diskpart, select disk 0, list partition) Look through the list and see which one is OS X's partition. Type: active Reboot. HOPEFULLY you can see startup options before you load OS X's GUI. Go to startup options. Look for something related to Windows. Select. You should boot into XP. TO REVERSE THIS PROCEDURE You should boot off of the XP install disc and use Recovery Console. Enter password if needed Now mark XP's partition as active using diskpart. If you want, delete OS X's partition on the Windows SATA drive. Reboot. Take out the CD and boot into Windows. Resize the XP partition. Done. I tested this with a ToH install, my Vista and OS X were working fine. Can i use chain0?Thanks disregard my last post AFAIK kaly does not install the V8 PC EFI, and AFAIK there is no way to know which version is installed, so you better install the V8 of netkas manually, there are several guides at Tutotrial Forum and Intallation->Leopard subforum. For Grub if you don't have a Linux you can go with Grub for DOS or WinGrub, but Easy BCD gives you Grub already. I know another way.Get the Windows drive on the channel. Install OS X onto it. Just some notes: Windows Partitioning Sofware does no work on GUID disks, you better use Gparted LiveCD On GUID there are no primary partitions (or extended/logical), they all are just partitions.
