evilcowsan
Hey, I'm trying to get sound working on my system and i am having no luck. I'm pretty sure i have it enabled in my Bios(onboard audio is set to enabled) and i know i have the plugs in the right spots. I'm pretty sure the device isn't getting loaded as mac says no audio device for anything audio related. I'm using the onboard sound of a 939dual-sata2 (for amd cpus) board and i have a Zephyroth 10.5.2 install. What i know about the card is: the asrock site says it's an ALC850 the dev/vendor code is 0x545510B9 Some places call it an M5455 I've found a couple other names for it while googling, but i'm at work right now and can't recall them, i'll update when i get home. Edit A couple other keywords i've seen on forums and google are C-med, Ali Corporation PCI, AC Link, ALC658(i think this one is wrong) Anyways, i've tried multiple random AC97 kexts from googling my motherboard or similar terms and haven't had any luck. I've tried adding my code to some kexts, but i've gotten a kernel panic each time(i could be doing this wrong, i put them in the the PCImatch area). I've searched all over, but it seems like not many people have used and had luck with this mobo even for installs so i'm finally bugging the smart folks here to see if you know. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -Skyler Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95514-onboard-sound-for-939dual-sata2-alc850/ Share on other sites

pnkt
I'm also very interested in getting the onboard ALi m5455 working, I think it's the last thing needed for full native support of this board. neandertaler
No way to get M5455 working! I started beginning to write my own driver 1 year ago but i dont got enough information about the chipset! I try to contact ALI and they pass me to nvidia. And nvidia don't gave me any information. Last but not least i've had compare the alsa driver (Intel vs. Ali) and i found too mucht diffrerenz and so i stop spending time to solve this problem. pnkt
Thanks Neandertaler, for putting my mind to rest on this. I will stop wasting my time on it and just get a USB soundcard or wait until i upgrade my mobo for a quad core system soon.
