Sanad
Hello all! After a lot of tinkering and installing, i still cant get my HP Laptop Pavilion Ze2160EA to boot up with leopard! Im using the iAtkos ir2 disc. It installs perfectly but then says it has to restart which it does but once i take the disc out, it doesnt boot! Did i choose the wrong disc to install? Should i be going for kalyway? Please! I need help. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could walk me through it or provide me a link to any guide for my laptop using iatkos ir2. Those of you who have installed using ir2, if you could provide some feedback, i'd highly appreciate it. I have to assemble a desktop for a hack as well depending on how this installation goes so i got a lot riding on this install! I have to assemble a desktop for a hack as well depending on how this installation goes so i got a lot riding on this install! Well, first thing, you might want to use a more descriptive title for your thread. Most people who can answer questions probably don't have a lot of time, and just scan the forum for a thread they feel they can help with. Threads that just say, "Please help," or similar, are often skipped. Second, we need to know more information about your computer. I just tried looking on HP's website, but (oddly) the specifications are not listed. Also tried looking for similar models, and the series CTO model, but no specs are listed. Based on the picture, and from what I remember of North American models that looked like that, you bought your system at least a couple years ago, and you have a single-core Pentium M-class or Turion-class CPU? We need to know: - CPU (Pentium M 1.5GHz, Turion 64, etc.) - Chipset (i855GM, nForce 4, etc.) - Hard drive (specifically, is it SATA or PATA) - Video card (Intel GMA 950, ATI Radeon 7500) - Amount of RAM Third, we need detailed information about what's happening. Saying, "It doesn't boot!" is about as helpful as saying, "My car has a problem!" Are you getting an error message? Does the comptuer appear to be trying to boot? Do you see an Apple Logo? File missing? Just a flashing cursor? Fourth, searching the forum for people who have a system with similar specs (chipset, CPU, etc.) might be better starting a new thread. Often questions have been answered, and people don't feel like answering the same questions over and over. Have you tried some of the step-by-step guides that are available? Have you tried any different releases, besides iATKOS? If not, try Leo4All. It supports AMD and Intel CPUs, with support for SSE2-only and SSE2/SSE3 CPUs. That was the one that worked best for my system. Fifth, although this should probably be first, have patience. Getting something to run on a platform it was never officially intended to run on is always problematic. I probably have ~15 different releases in my binder, ranging from 10.4.1 to 10.5.2. I probably installed (attempted to install) OSx86 100+ times, literally, on at least 10 different systems, with different specs. Sometimes it would go through smoothly, and others... "WTF! WHY DON'T YOU BOOT?!?" lol, but seriously, just take it easy. Good luck. nkear5
Make an mbr partition and give it a name that is one word. Now before you go installing OS X, up terminal from the install disc and type the following. Press enter after each line. fdisk - e /dev/rdisk0 flag 1 update write quit If it asks you something like "you will need to reboot to do such and such" just type y . Now continue with the leopard install and make sure you only select the relevant customization options. If you get to the grey boot screen and it continually reboots, then you've installed something from customize that it doesn't like. Sanad
anrchy_1024: Thanks for the reply man! I hear ya! here's a link to my laptop: http://search.hp.com/query.html?lang=en&am...la=en&cc=us Its a 1.8 Pentium M with 512MB Ram and Intel GMA. Dont remember the chipset. I'll try to look for Leo4All. The thing that happens is when it reboots after install, all i see is a blinking cursor at the upper left corner in a black background. It doesnt proceed from there. nkear5: I'll try your stuff when i get back home. Thanks man! nkear5
Since you technically have a working copy of os x installed, just boot your disc into single user mode ( -s ) and input the commands I listed. Remember "0" in rdisk0 is your hard drive number, "1" in flag 1 is your partition number. Use the relevant numbers to your installation location. If OS X is your first partition do flag 1. Just try that, there is no harm if it doesn't work you just have to try again with a new number. Sanad
no. MBR part is when you select your drive in disk utility, then click on partition, you see that button at the end called option. Select MBR from there. Then make the partition. MBR is master boot record. I have Office 2008, however iWork is quite useful for document and presentation editing. As for video playing software...You can't go past Quicktime . But if you're looking for more compatibility VLC player is quite the useful little application. Hint: To take a screen capture, do this key sequence. cmd+shift+3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95170-calling-out-to-all-insanely-genius-members/#findComment-680096 Share on other sites
