Edit: Read down at the bottom for solution.

I have been trying to install OS X on my computer for ages.

Every disk I put in gives the "still waiting for root device" error

So I research on the forums and re-configure my computer in this order (giving up hope of an install on my SATA drive, which I had hoped for)-

IBM IDE 12GB drive master

DVD Drive Slave

...still waiting for root device

unplug and disable via BIOS, all othe peripherals

Try just about every single BIOS configuration

...still waiting for root device

But I don't give up yet

I reconnect my SATA drive and boot into Windows

In VMware I make a virtual machine, desegnating my 12GB drive as the drive

Success! The uphuck 10.4.9 Boots!

I format the drive HFS+ (Journaled), and install.

(This drive wouldn't boot in VMware after install)

Power off computer, boot to my 12gig drive, I see the darwin loader and my "Macintosh HD" that I created! Flag as -v

...still waiting for root device!

Try all other flags, rd=disk(x)s(y)

...still waiting for root device!!!!!

If someone could help me- please, I have tried everything

My system specs:

--------------------------

Intel Pentium D 925 3.00 GHz 2 cores, SSE3, 64bit

Intel DG965RY motherboard

4 Gigs PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM

ATI Radeon x1300

Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio

IBM 12GB IDE Hard Drive

Western Digital 250GB SATA

IDE DVD Read/Burn

IDE CD Read/Burn

Install Disks

--------------------------

uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i r2

iAtkos v1.0i

ToHx86 9A581 Leo

Kalyway 10.5.1 intel SSE2 SSE3

deadmoo vmware image

Also, I am typing this from an old Toshiba Sattelite Mx35 Laptop I have with a good install of uphuck 10.4.9 Tiger

Solution:

The DG965RY's IDE does not work. This is why I kept getting the "Still waiting for root device" error. I read many threads and a lot of people said that using IDE could help fix it. I bought a SATA DVD and HDD and sure enough I was able to boot.

The Radeon X1300's QE/CI works out of box with the Kalyway install, no need to check graphics options. However, the mouse will leave a square artifact on some things you click on - couldn't find a solution, but only a mild annoyance. System sleep and display sleep never worked, and neither did resolution change or color profiling.

The DG965RY's LAN doesn't work, so I had to use a PCI card, but the audio could be patched with Taruga's STAC9227_0x83847618Installer
