estevo
Hi everyone. I'm having a little trouble with the kalyway 10.5.1 install on my gigabyte p35-ds3p. I know this board is absolutely supported, and many prople have used kalyway to install. I'm using a pata hd and a pata dvdrw. I have a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 with a Prescott core, so it's SSE3. I boot from DVD, then format my OSx86 partition (which is the whole drive) as MBR, I go to the installer, select Vanilla kernel and fix, and select MBR bootloader. I install, takes ~20 min., and says, "installation successful!" I hit restart and everything seems to be going fine until the bootloader runs: it loads then before you can even see the apple screen, the computer reboots. It'll do it forever. Load, reboot. Load, reboot. It's frustrating. Right now, I'm installing to a usb drive to see if that helps. probably not. I'm not very good with efi and bootloaders and such, maybe someone could help. Jackson-4
Hey there, sorry, I can't help you out of this situation. I can, however tell you what I have done differently with the very same result: - Installed Kalyway 10.5.1 on Thinkpad T40p (Pentium-M, 1.6 GigaHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Mobile 9000) - did everything you did except: booted DVD with -x at command-line, formatted and partitioned drive with GUID (not MBR) The rest went as planned, then the same same result you have. Endlessly loading, rebooting... Check out my Fred - maybe some one will post something there as well... I can tell you this: I installed using the very same DVD in a Thinkpad T61 (Lenovo) with success. Oh yeah - I installed to an external USB-Drive. Wonderful stuff, I must say. You wouldn't believe the speed after booting is completed. Runs very fluently and WiFi works out of the box... Cheers, Jacko Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/93477-problem-with-kalyway-install-bad-bootloader/#findComment-667083 Share on other sites
estevo
Thanks Jackson-4.This is also odd because JaS' 10.4.8 and an update to 10.4.9 works flawlessly.Sure, 10.4 has the functionality I need and the thing is blazing fast, but I built it for 10.5, you know what I mean?Anyway thanks for your help.Jackson-4 if you're still interested:I was lookking on OSx86 Wiki and many of the installs on this board or similar say they just used EFI V8 with NO Vanilla kernel.I'm in the process of trying that now with high hopes.I'll keep you updated Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/93477-problem-with-kalyway-install-bad-bootloader/#findComment-667342 Share on other sites
estevo
THAT DID IT!!!!!!!!!! PRAISE THE LORD WHO REIGNS!!!!!!! He died on the cross, He rose again, and He helped me see what was wrong and I'm running osx 10.5.1!! So, all I did was deselect the Vanilla kernel and fix.
