MissileSilo
Hi, I have a working version of Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 installed on my Lenovo T60 lap top. (Wireless doesn't work however) I want to install the newest update but I don't want to do it if it's going to break my installation. I've currently got a mach_kernel file on the root filesystem that I'm thinking might get deleted when I install the update. Is it safe to install the 10.5.2 update? Thanks for your help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92736-installing-system-update-1052/ Share on other sites
Panik
There are countless threads about how to update to new versions, replacing the mach_kernel. [How to Install 10.5.2 Tutorial] Since I am feeling in a good mood, I will help you. You take your own risk before using any step listed below 1. Back-up your mach_kernel (In case you do something stupid like forget to repairPermissions /) 2. Download the 10.5.2 update (DMG!) from the Apple site (do NOT use Software Update) 3. Log on to IRC (in the usual places) find the 10.5.2 kernel for your flavor (Vanilla/MBR/what have you) 4. If you added custom patches when you installed, save them! Otherwise: Kernel Panic (which is fun) 4 b. Back-up your Kexts (from the Extensions folder) 5. Run the update installer from mounted DMG 6. Once it finishes, replace mach_kernel with custom kernel (in Terminal, find this on the forum) 6 b. If you're running EFI (netkas) you can use Vanilla (which is nice) 7. Overwrite with your favorite saved/backed up Kexts. 8. repairPermissions / & clear extensions (play nice) Now I would've given you all the Terminal commands but since you can't use the search function on the forum... I don't see why I should. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92736-installing-system-update-1052/#findComment-661480 Share on other sites
