Hi everybody,

need some help here :-/

I had a running 10.5.1 on my Dell Inspiron 6400 (Core Duo) and tried this howto to update it to 10.5.2:

http://netkas.org/?p=50

Was it correct to copy the WHOLE Extensions-Dir backup back to /System/Library/Extensions/ ? I did so...

But after rebooting (looked with -v) it only shows about 5 or 6 lines in the bootlog and then quickly rebooted the laptop. Its too short to see anything clearly.

Then i used macDrive from windows to backup and delete my /System/Library/Extensions.mkext. Now it runs through several kextloads but then suddenly reboots again and again ... and again...

I think the last kextload i can see is "TMSafetyNet.kext" but maybe it loads all kexts fine and reboots on some other thing...

Any ideas?

Maybe this is my problem:

of course it’s all for intel core 2 based cpus and intel mobos. and pc_efi.

other users can use 10.5.1 kernel/system.kext with 10.5.2 system (like amd users or pentium-d)

but... system.kext was in my backup. so im already using the old one...

and i did not touch the mach_kernel. Did the update changed it? seems to be the old one too...

Anyone? :-/

I downloaded the KALYWAY 10.5.1 now, and another strange thing happened: If i put the DVD into my drive and reboot with it, then the laptop shows the message where i can hit any key and THEN boots up fine into my leo install ?!?! WIthout the DVD it wont boot through...

After a fresh install with this DVD the same thing happens. WITH DVD inserted, it boots up fine. Without the dvd it reboots after some seconds again and again...

Whats the difference?

I've had this strange problem as well, really weird..

I went through repartitioning and reinstaling my laptop so many times.. (cca 30 times since last week) then i'm actualy doing it when asleep :D

Anyway..

Last night i manage to give CPR to my laptop and install XP pro on first partition, install Acronis boot thing and then Kalyway 10.5.1..

But during install when customizing I've ticked MBR instead of mmm Gggg what's it.. errmmm well the other option of bootable EFI(?)..(sh :P it I don't remember things it was 1 am!.. )

.

After restart, Darwin came up first...so i had to reactivate (well i didn't have to) Acronis...BUT!!!

Acronis won't pick up OS X install!!!! FU :( ING HELL! So I can't choose it from boot menu.. (Darwin is fine..)

AND when i managed to make OS X boot.. it keeps restarting...:((((

I don't know what i do wrong..:(((

(boot with -s or -v parameter gets looped afetr a while with message saying:

"Package 0 didn't get an HPET"

"Package 0 didn't get an HPET"

"Package 0 didn't get an HPET"

"Package 0 didn't get an HPET"

"Package 0 didn't get an HPET"

few times and then it spit's something and restart itself.. and i'm stuck in the loop.. :(

When i tried ToH 10.5.0 and then applied Kalyway combo update 10.5.2 i was struggling with the weird DVD in drive issue...BUT IT WORKED and system booted up!...

I'm not giving up until I'll make it work smooth with XP and Leo (maybe just Tiger if unsuccessful then)

Please guys.. I'm bloody desperate!! But also so excited!! cos OS X really rocks!

Oh BTW my lappy is ASUS A6Vm

And yes, I'm a total OS X N00b!!!

Wrong kernel, need the ACPI fix, and get the correct kexts too.
