Raindance
I haven't posted much before but since I've gotten so much wonderful help from just lurking I figure I'd give a little back. A bit of backstory. I bought a cheap AMD laptop about a year ago and went through putting OSX86 on it the hard way (kext editing file moving etc, etc). Enjoyed the heck outta it. Thing would never sleep right so it was a bust as a laptop though. Sold it and just kinda followed the community here over the months. Had a little extra cash and decided to give it a go again. Did a little research here and there. Went out and bought a Compaq SR5310F elCheapo machine from Staples for llike $350. I'm telling you, if you want an almost perfect OSX86 experience out of the box get this machine and use the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD release and the Kalyway 10.5.2 ComboUpdate. Everything that I have had time to check out works perfectly. Just boot the DVD up. When you get to the first OSX install screen, choose Disk Utility from the menu. Use one partition scheme and GUID. Quit Disk Utility and when you get to the install screen choose "Customize", and the only thing you have to change is the Soundcards_drivers. Choose the "AZALIA_out" one. Then continue with the install. I even used Migration Assistant to move all my stuff from my MacBook Pro (Mid June 2007 Santa Rosa LED Backlight) to the Compaq. It all works. Everything. Blew me away. I've burned discs with Toast, ripped discs, used ethernet extensively. Video is perfect. CI and QE are working perfectly. Time Machine seems to be working. And the thing sleeps correctly too. If any of this changes in the near future I'll post an update. I've owned many, many Macs over the years (Plus, SE30, IIsi, iMac Lime, iBook Tangerine, PowerBook G3, iBook G4, PowerMac G4 Cube, iMac G5 iSight and MacBook Pro) and this thing is about as good. Not pretty, and not as streamlined to use but dude for the cash you can't beat it! I need to put this in the Desktop HCL. Oh and one last thing. When you finish the Kalyway 10.5.2 ComboUpdate and run Software update from the Apple Menu all the updates work but DO NOT INSTALL the "Leopard Graphics Update"! It will screw up your video. I haven't researched a work around yet but I imagine that there is a fix out there somewhere. -rain- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92265-compaq-1052-success-story/ Share on other sites
