PiNgD0
Hi, I'm fairy new to this operating system, but I have 'successfully' installed it, but when it comes to actually booting, I get the apple loading screen then it just goes black. I have tried installing it 3 times with the same results. I will explain exactly what I did so maybe someone can tell me if I went wrong somewhere. I have an intel CPU with an nVidia graphics card and my CPU supports SSE2 and SSE3. First, I am using the 'Mac OS X 10 4 8 JaS AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 with PPF1 amp PPF2' install DVD. I mounted the ISO using Alcohol 120%, then used Acronis Disk Director Suite to create a partition on my unused hard drive (FAT32, Primary partition). I installed Acronis bootloader as well. I then booted into the disk normally, and selected my language. I used the Disk Utility to erase the volume I partitioned (this was part of an installation guide, which obviously didn't work ). I then installed with the Intel patch and support for all hardware, and disabled installation of printer drivers and language support. So I restarted when that was done, and booted with Acronis bootloader. It loaded with the Mac loading screen, then it just went black. PLEASE help me I think this is an unknown issue but maybe someone might know if I did something wrong with installation. Thanks in advance, Chris Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92185-black-screen-when-booting/ Share on other sites

westwaerts
looks like your grafic card is not or wrong detected, if you see the apple logo and the spinning wheel and then goes black. while booting into osx ( darwin ....) hit F8 and type: -v ( for verbose mode) so you see an error log post it here. Guest
I have had the EXACT same problem as you have... installation goes perfect... then it doesnt work and for me my Win XP also crashed... I have nVidia GeForce Go 6400 PS. how does not installing the nvidia driver help... isn't it needed to make sure the monitor displays ? (explain) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92185-black-screen-when-booting/#findComment-658838 Share on other sites
PiNgD0
Westwaerts, when i boot into osx, the apple logo just immediately comes and goes black, so i can't press F8 or anything, but when i boot into the installation CD i can. Oh, and I reinstalled but without nVidia support (I have the GeForce 7300) just to try things out. This time I got the apple logo but i freezes every time but then some music plays as soon as the picture freezes :S But as XFire said, how does not installing the driver help ? and how do you do it anyways ? Guest
Ok.. so is this pretty much solely a graphics card problem... because then can graphic card supports be accessed that work on the mac... I'm confused what to do... (i do not have the mac installed at this moment since last time it stopped windows booting) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92185-black-screen-when-booting/#findComment-658859 Share on other sites
Skyper
@PiNgD0 Try to boot with -V at boot screen press F8 and type -V. Then sho us where it gets stuck. You can also try to boot into safe mode by typing -x and when you get to the desktop install the nvidia driver. PiNgD0
Skyper, thats just my problem. When in acronis bootloader I boot Mac, but there is no boot screen, like there is with the installation CD. It just says 'loading darwin' or instantly takes me to the apple logo screen. I will try again nonetheless, but please forward any alternatives. Guest
Exacly what is the cause of this ? Why the black screen but the music plays ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92185-black-screen-when-booting/#findComment-658929 Share on other sites
PiNgD0
When I reinstalled osx without nvidia support, the spinning wheel froze, and music just played. In this case, a black screen never came, but the picture remained frozen. Guest
I'm sorry Skyper but i've already tried that before and i have used the Darwin Bootloader and again the same thing happens where the Grey Apple screen loads followed by a black screen and music Any other reasons why this is happening, Conflicts ? Unsure however PiNgD0 try this... CODE Booted in single user mode by pressing F8 at the Darwin prompt, using the '-s' boot option type each line and hit enter. /sbin/fsck -fy /sbin/mount -uw / cd /System/Library/Extensions mkdir disabled mv NV* disabled kextcache -k ./ reboot Then download the Universal GeForce Drivers Package by Prawker... PiNgD0
I tried the code and rebooted into osx normally with the exact same results - Spinning wheel freezes followed by music, but no black screen (I get a black screen only when I install OSX with nVidia/Titan support package in customize). Any other suggestions, anyone ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92185-black-screen-when-booting/#findComment-661417 Share on other sites

wywywywy
The connector to connect a monitor to a PC. VGA = analogue DVI = digital Google for images of how they look like.
