i've been spending days trying to solve blinking cursor issue on one of my hard drives (works fine with the 40 gb ide but i get the blinking cursor when i try to install, clone etc on the 200gb ide (ive tried every solution i've found))

it seems like this is a very popular problem and there is not ONE solution to fix the dreaded blinking cursor issue.

maybe we could create a stickie for ways that people have overcome this problem.

it seems like it happens over and over and new people will be constantly asking for help.

just an idea.

also, if you can solve my problem i will love you forever.

hi,

I solved my issue with that :

  1. Gary Says:
November 7th, 2007 at 4:41 am Great guide - although I was still presented with the blinking cursor thing… this worked for me though…

    - Type: "dd if=/usr/standalone/i386/boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsX bs=512 count=1″
(exchange "rdiskXsX" for your correct disk and partition number!)

    - Type: "startupfiletool /dev/rdiskXsX /usr/standalone/i386/boot"
(exchange "rdiskXsX" for your correct disk and partition number!)

    - Type: "bless -device /dev/diskXsX -setBoot -verbose"
(exchange "diskXsX" for your correct disk and partition number!)

    - Type: "diskutil mount /dev/diskXsX"
(exchange "diskXsX" for your correct disk and partition number!)

    - Type: "bless -mount /Volumes/Leopard -setBoot -verbose"
(exchange "Leopard" for the correct name of your Leopard partition!)

Bless24 didn't work - gave me IODevice Tree errors - but Bless did - weird. And I have an MCP in Windows 200 and an A+ - drove me nuts for an entire evening!!

Anyways, your guide really got me through it - thanks!

    -Gary

I found it on Jason Madigan site in comments section.

I booted from DVD with -s flag (boot: -s) and enered all the coomands.

Alex.

hi shurlin,

thanks for that. after days of trying every "fix" for some reason it magically started working on its own? i have no idea which fix ultimately ended up being the one to do the trick but i'm not going to question it. did the upgrade to 10.5.2 w kalyway and used the sigmatel audio patch and i'm all good!
