jbjonas
I think he is trying to resize his HFS+ partition to make room for a dual boot of XP. now i guess i shouldve not formated the entire drive for mac I just don't know the utility that can be used from within OSX to resize HFS partitions... I know I saw a post about it on here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it again. Anyone? jbjonas
It sounds like its taking you to a recovery prompt. If you're wiping everything clean anyway, what happens when you delete all the partitions from fdisk, and boot from the CD? And you're getting this dos prompt without entering any options at all?? strange, I can't get to a recovery prompt on my XP install CD without entering choices, etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9157-formated-drive-for-os-x86now-how-do-i-get-it-back-to-xp/#findComment-58525 Share on other sites
krange
hey thanks for responding. yeah i havent deleted any paritions yet. but check this out. i did unplug my hard drive and that dr-dos prompt came up. with my windows xp cd in? could something have been added to my mbr? when i try to delete the disk with fdisk it says i need to do it in expert mode? should i go ahead with this? jbjonas
wow... I'm lost. Are you sure that XP install disk is 100% ok? also, you had the hard drive (all of them? is there more than one?) unplugged and booted to CD, and got the same thing? Odd- the mbr is part of the hard drive - so no I doubt it's the mbr if all your drives are disconnected. I'm kinda lost at this point... Maybe you should post all your specification details for your system. I guess if you have nothing (no DATA) to lose on your existing partitions, I would wipe everything clean ( in expert mode if you have to) and start over. But make sure to cancel out the other possibilities first. Like the XP disk, etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9157-formated-drive-for-os-x86now-how-do-i-get-it-back-to-xp/#findComment-58556 Share on other sites
