Red Chops Posted March 1, 2008 Share Posted March 1, 2008 Let me start off with a little background: Normally, when a new system update comes out, I download it from Apple's website, then run pacifist and marvin on the files, make a patching script, then run the update like normal. After that I boot in to safe mode and run the patches. This has worked for me for many versions. Until 10.5.2 I do what I normally do, and as the update is running, it kernel panics and shuts down. I figure this is due to it installing that AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext or whatever it is, so no biggie, i'll just go into the disk and copy the rest of the files over manually, since i still had them extracted to the desktop. Did that, ran the patching script, everything is fine until the GUI loads, then sends me to the console, then comes back up again, over and over without stopping. So, I'm looking at this, and it appears that loginwindow.app is segfaulting, but I have no idea why it would be doing that.. If anybody can lend me some insight as to how to fix this problem, please do. I can provide whatever logs you may need, since I can run the console perfectly fine, I just can't complete the boot process. Can you get into safe mode (-x) and install the kallyway 10.5.2 update ? Although there seems no real reason to update, living on 10. or 10.5.1 is not so bad. You can use a system changer to fool your system if you like. If you don't have one at hand, follow my instructions below. Simple edit a file in terminal. In terminal type: sudo nano /system/library/coreservices/systemversion.plist type in your password and where it says: <key>ProductUserVisibleVersion</key> <string>10.5.2</string> <key>ProductVersion</key> <string>10.5.2</string> change the 10.5.2 parts to anything you like..... To save what you have edited, press ctrl+o and hit return. then you can quit terminal. Hope this helps. Red Chops Posted March 2, 2008 Author Share Posted March 2, 2008 My system specs are (from memory since i'm not at home): AMD FX-55 Abit U-Guru nforce sli main board Nvidia Geforce 7900 GT KO er..can't think of anything else that would be important I can't boot the system in any other mode than -s, however I can copy files over using MacDrive and my Windows partition Oh, and I didn't do any Graphics Update, I'm using NvInject.kext with a modified GeForce.kext and nvblahblah files that I inserted my card hwid into. eddie11c Posted March 8, 2008 Share Posted March 8, 2008 sounds to me like you missed a file with Marvin's. either something is still encrypted or has cpuid's. I made a 10.5.2 update installer quite awhile ago and posted it up on the bay for AMD. You should have just gotten that one and saved yourself from reinstalling, as that is what your probably going to have to do now. Red Chops Posted March 10, 2008 Author Share Posted March 10, 2008 I've made some developments, after replacing the kernel and SMBIOS, it looks like SecurityAgent is what is crashing and probably what is preventing loginwindow.app from loading, any suggestions other than a reinstall? sliverstorm Posted April 8, 2008 Share Posted April 8, 2008 I had this exact same problem when I applied the time machine update replaced my loginwindow.app with the one I had saved from before said time machine update.
