yelow
Okay, so I agreed to help out my neighbor to put together a media center PC. He wants to replace his aging Sony laptop with a complete system, built from the ground up. I threw in the idea of making an OSx86 box, but am unsure of the exact chipset as far as OS X compatibility goes. From what I understand, the Intel 975i (?) chipset is fully compatible, but I'm also kicking the idea of an AMD64 box around as well. What chipsets are fully compatible with the .3 and .4 releases? Also, am I pretty much stuck on ATi cards if I want hardware acceleration? The Macvidia project seems to be coming along, but it's some time yet until .4 results. Anyway, any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance, -Tim (happy v-day, too!)
R. Bear Helms
I've yet to hear from someone with fully functional 10.4.4 - allegedly some people have gotten farther than I, but nowhere am I finding what worked for them detailed out in a manner I can follow. What details I've read that have been shared don't work. The iMac Core Duo isn't exactly like any motherboard for sale. A motherboard with Intel 945 chipset, ICH7, GMA 950, and with a CPU that is capable of SSE3, NX, and PAE features is usually very close to what OSx86 seems to like. My system has GMA 900 (still works as is), ICH6 (not working), and the CPU has SSE3, NX, and PAE. So aside from sound and some USB handling weirdness, it's still vaguely compatible.
