Hi,

I installed Mac OS x 10.4.1 patched DVD using an external DVD drive to my Sis 964 based Sempron 64 system. It boots up fine. I use the integrated Sis Mirage 3 graphics, and my PS/2 ports, CD burner, card reader, all work; Rosetta even works, and lets me sync my Palm m125!

The only problem I have is getting my internet to work. I know that the onboard SiS 900 isn't going to work, so I went out and bought a Network Everywhere card at WalMart. Basically its a Linksys LC100 under a different name.

Anyhow, I plugged the card in and booted into OS X. I went into the network setup, and it detected the card, but it said something along the lines of "Firewire card detected!" It didn't work, so I tried to install the Tulip driver. I believe that I installed it, but I still get the "Firewire card detected!" message when I go into the Network setup.

Any ideas? Since my chipset isn't supported, do you think that the PCI slots just aren't going to be detected? If that's the case, I think I'll go with a USB card.

Thanks for reading, and for providing any help you may have.

Check the Wiki Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) for another network adapter solution. USB is also problematic... I think Realtek and Intel NIC chipsets work ok, maybe 3com... USB for networking has been marginal, at least when I tried a wireless adapter based around a "supported" chipset. Ha, supports me like a rubber crutch!

Went out and purchased a NetGear FA311 card (I used to have one of these a few years ago.. great card! )

Plugged it in, disabled the onboard ethernet in the bios, and WOW! It works perfect, just plug and play!

It was kind of expensive ($20) but the FA311 card works awesome.. and will work in other hobby OSes too (I used my last card on a BeOS machine I built)
