I have a Toshiba A75-S2762 series notebook with the following specs:

Processor: Pentium 4 (Model 538 with HT enabled) 3.20GHz4 , 1MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB

Memory: 1gb

HD: 80gb partitioned for 50gb and 30gb

3.20GHz4 , 1MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB

Video: ATI® MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9000 IGP chipset

Bios: ACPI, PnP, VESA, DPMS, DDC, SM BIOS, PCI BIOS support

Unfortunately I don't know the specific Motherboard on the model.

I am trying to install Leopard from the Kalyway 10.5.1 SSE2 & SSE3 ISO file.

When I try to startup off the install dvd without any special options, the Apple logo startup screen will appear and run for awhile, then a Circle with a "/" through it will appear over the Apple Logo (similar to a non-smoking sign).

When I try to run the install via -v, it loads through until:

AppleGenericPCATADriver: CMD 0x1f0, CTR 0x3f4, IRQ 14

FireWire (OHCI) TI ID 8026 PCI now active, GUID 0023f4c56400a8c; max speed s400

ERROR: FireWire unable to determine security-mode; defaulting to full-secure.

Still waiting for root device

Still waiting for root device

etc...( the Still Waiting for root device will continually repeat)

Any suggestions? Do I need to install something else prior to the leopard dvd?

PS: The disc was burned on a Mac Running 10.5.2 under disk utility at 8x.

Thanks!

i am having the same problem "still waiting for root device"

Intel P4 630 3.0ghz

Intel D915GAG, ich6 controller on board

1.5gb ram

1x80gb WD SATA

1x160gb WD SATA

Nvidia Geforce 6600 Pci-Express

Sony DVD-Writer..

i also have the same problem with iatkos

First off, it's a good idea to burn at a slower speed.. leopard dvds are notoriously finicky when burned at normal speeds..

I'm assuming your drive is parallel ide, not sata, and your dvd drive is too... As I understand it, a lot of people get "waiting for root device" when they're using unsupported sata drivers, and the solution is to patch the drivers into the install dvd... but I'm not sure that's the case here...

If you need to inject kexts into an installer, here's a little guide on how to do so: http://osx86.wikidot.com/how-to-s#toc3

Have you tried the dvd on another computer?

I think maybe it's just the speed you burned it.

inedible,I went back and burned another copy at 2x, and yeah my unit is from 2004 so its IDE not SATA. thanks for the kext instructions, but any suggestions for finding them for my system (if i even need to inject them?)I'll try the dvd on another unit and see if it boots. ThanksThe DVD boots into the installer perfectly on a Dell Inspirion E1405 notebook...so the burn is good...any suggestions?

Thanks, the drive is definitely an IDE drive (unit is from 2004). Is there any easy way to determine the address I need to put in to the rd=* command?

I thought the drive was IDE Device 3 (according to my toshiba diags, but it doesn't give the disk*s* format) and so I tried "rd=disk3s0 -v" with and without the platform=x86pc command and then "rd=disk3s1". I still get the "still waiting" error.

So I've tried both Kalyway and iatkos (with and without both of the new patches).... still get the Still Waiting for Root error

So, figuring the issue was my IDE drive, I went ahead and connected an external USB DVD drive I had lying around. I still get that error with the iAtkos distros, but Kalyway looks like it finds the BDS root...however, now its just hangs after

BSD root: disk1s2, major 14, minor 5 (see image)

How long should it take to get past this point? I've let it sit for over 30 minutes.

Thanks guys!
