I have a near perfect install of Leopard

My motherboard has 6 sata ports, all of which work with ahci.

I Use only 4 of the 6 sata ports, one of the items is the Sata Dvd drive.. which works perfectly.

I recently tested the Pata port on an ide hard drive. The drive worked great.. i copied 30gb of files from it to my sata data drive.

I then decided to hook up my Pata dvd drive so i could burn, rip multiple files.

The pata drive is detected in osx.. it gives me the correct name/model. It shows it also in the system profiler. I can eject and close it... but no matter which dvd/cd i place in it.. it never mounts/never is detected. Ive tried the same disc in both drives, just doesnt work in the pata one.

Does anyone know how this could happen? it was working fine up until the point where it actually has to read the disc.

Edit: It appears that i can eject fine.. but when i place a disk in and close the drive, it never detects it as being closed.

Thanks

Thanks for your excellent install guide.

While it isn't a very helpful suggestion, I'm wondering if it is simply a drive firmware issue.

Another possibility though - my Pioneer 215 SATA DVD sometimes does that under Leopard (Kalyway 10.5.1). It sometimes disappears completely also. It's attached to one of the J-Micron purple ports on my P35-DS3P. Could general DVD drive flakiness be a bug in Leopard ?
