HeyItsBattleKid
I'm really getting into video editing and am even looking at a summer internship for teaching video editing to kids! I've currently got a laptop that is nice, but doesn't fit my many needs of video editing. I'm looking to drop no more than $1500 on a computer and want to make this compatible for a Mac install. I figure I'll be running 3 hard drives down the road but for now, I'm going to stick with a 500Gb for WinXP64x and a 250Gb for whichever Mac OS I go with. As a video editor and this internship, I'm going to need to get some more experience with Final Cut, and this is really my main reason for installing the Mac OS. Here is the setup I have so far: Case: Cooler Master RC-690 (Case at Newegg.com) ~$80 / Cooler Master COSMOS 1000 (Case at Newegg.com) ~$190 CPU: Intel Q9450 2.66GHz ~$316 (when it is released) / Intel Q6600 ~$270 Mobo: Gigabyte EP35 DS3P ~$150 (Motherboard at Newegg.com) RAM: (2x2GB)x2 for 8GB ~$200 (not sure on brand yet) GPU: NVidia 8600GT ~$70 (fairly easy to find this card for $70 after rebate) PSU: PC Power & Cooling 610W ~$120 (Power Supply at Newegg.com) HDD: Seagate 250GB + 250GB ~$160 I'll be using my 32" LCD tv as a monitor until I have enough to get a nice monitor 24+". I'll eventually get a sound card as well. I also currently have an external 500GB, but I'm using it as a mode of backup. For about $1150 using the RC-690 case and tax/shipping, I think its a reasonable build that hopefully will somewhat whiz by Sony Vegas, Final Cut, and Adobe After Effects. I am open for any suggestions considering part changes that would better accomodate a Mac install. I figure I may be playing some newer games so the 3850 was a good deal. I'm using this computer 95% of the time as a video editing machine, but I may also game and occasionally watch some movies. I'm afraid to dual boot the OS, Triboot actually cause I may have Vista64, XP64, maybe XP32, and a Mac install on that 500GB. Let me know what you guys think! HeyItsBattleKid
:UPDATE: Changed the graphics card to a 8600GT because I think the 3850 is overkill for the games I play. It is also $100 cheaper and seems to be quite compatible with Mac installs.
