aphextom9
so i ran autoupdate and let it install the 10.5.2 update on my kalyway 10.5.1 install. should have checked it out beforehand, but it was late, i was tired... needless to say, grey screen of death on boot ensues. i imagine i need to boot with the 10.5.1 DVD and use terminal and a flash drive to move the right files around... but what files are the problematic ones? aka, the magic ones? -TIA Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89306-1052-whoops/ Share on other sites

inedible
I don't know of any way to fix this, but some of the files which could be causing your problems are Do Not Steal MacOS.kext and dsmos.kext, as well as AppleCPUPowerManagement.kext, and ApplePS2Controller.kext.. You may also need to reinstall your SATA drivers, as well as any video drivers, lan drivers, audio drivers, etc. You'll need to get these kexts from a patched leopard install... if you don't have another leopard install you could get them off the patched dvd, though you'd need another mac to extract them from the pkg file using pacifist or similar. Again, I don't think there's any way to fix this manually, you're likely just going to have to reinstall from scratch. If you need to salvage some important files off your mac drive before you format it, several linux distributions support the HFS+ filesystem, or there's a program for windows called MacDrive, which has like a 5 day trial you can use. terrancew_hod
^Don't think that will work. I thought I saw a thread on recovering it, but not sure how well that went. You may have to do a search for the thread. But I think you're going to have to reinstall if you don't have a backup handy.
