I recently installed 10.4.3 8F1111 on my computer and other than mouse artifacts it's been working great... untill it locks up with the multilanguage "you need to restart your computer" message.

I'm using an old Dell Dimension 4550 that's stock except for the video card (ATI Radeon 9800pro) and the DVD drive (which is actually from a friends Dell Dimension 4550).

My CPU is a Pentium4A so I'm using SSE3 emulation as it only supports SSE2.

I'm so close, anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Things I've tried:

Disable USB Emulation in bios

Instal Maxxuss' 8F111A patch.

Thanks!

Those messages are often a Kernel panic. Read all the language on the screen and see if there's a line of text that says "panic" at the beginning. The full text of that line often gives a clue as to what module or hardware is giving it problems.

Since it occurs after you see a desktop, I'm guessing this is a network device error, maybe even wireless after it establishes a connection.

Did you hear sound when you first booted into OS X? That "welcome" screen with all the different language words has a musical score. If you don't have sound, it could be something is about to alert you (including making a sound) and crashes the system because the sound driver is unstable or malfunctioning.

I have run OS X on a gateway desktop without a hitch, hit the net, heard sounds, the whole spiel, so I cannot repeat this experience... therefore it likely is some function of the OS that doesn't pay a critical role in booting or graphics.

Is your graphics mode one that allows you to change color depth or even resolution? If not, we know at least Quartz Extreme and Core Image likely are being circumvented... which isn't a problem, at least on my mom's Gateway.
