Partition Scheme Questions

Hi all,

I hope I'm writting in the right section of the forum, let me give you all a little bit of background information before posting my doubts.

I've been happily running OsX86 for two months now and I'm want to go legit (sort of).

I'm running OsX on a dual boot Toshiba Laptop (Equium A100-147), the installation is using MBR partition and have Linux alongside OsX86 while grub takes care of booting to both systems (I also boot to WinXP from an external USB drive). I installed using the XxX_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_Intel, rev 1.0 - PPF 1. Everything works great without having touched the comand line at all, all drivers from the DVD worked after messing around for a bit and used the Taruga driver to get my ALC861 sound card to work. I am a musician working in Live electro-acoustic music, my main operative system is Linux where I use PD and Chuck to do my sonic mayhem. However, I collaborate with too many people and thus need OsX and Windows for compatibility reasons. I can't afford a new Apple computer at the moment but I have decided to get a Genuine License for Tiger and for Max/MSP to use on my hackintosh.

 

I have ordered a new 200gb hardrive and want to install my 3 systems from scratch and would like to get some advice on how to partition it. I am assuming that after formating I will get around 180Gb of usable space which I want to split evenly as follows:

 

Primary Partition Linux / 58Gb ( /swap 2Gb Extended)

Primary Partition OsX86 60Gb

Primary Partition WinXP 60Gb

 

These are my questions:

Is there any particular order I should install my systems?

Does the location of each partition makes any performance difference?

Is there any practical (performance) difference between MBR and UID type partitions?

Is there any real advantage (I'm not that interested on automatic updates) in having a vanilla kernel using pc EFI?

Would there be any problem if I make al partitions primary?

Would I be able to keep grub taking care of booting to all 3 systems without chain-loading?

Does rEFIt works on hackintosh machines?

 

I will really appreciate any hints on this, as I've said earlier I'm quite happy with the setup I have at the moment but want to know if there is a "better" setup that someone knows
