dvd retail installation

Hello,

 

We have seem that there is a way to install leopard from the original dvd but this method requires another leo or tiger previosly installed and another disk. I have three hd, two configured as a raid 0 and the other one that i use for tests and always install leo from one to another if something fails.

 

(i think it is worth having another disk, say a cheap 40 gb second hand for this purpose)

 

The thing is that if we can follow this method the only thing to do is make a big post and apload the necessary kexts that will make your system work and apply the patch. So in my case this is my config:

 

board: Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2

Grfx: nvidia 7300gs

wif: dlink dwlg520 rev.b

raid card: dc-300e (sil3132)

cpu: intel E4500 @2.80

 

So lets say that we have tiger installed in one disk and wanted to install leo in the other disk:

 

-Open disk utilities and select the disk where leo is going to be installed, go to partitions, select one and in options select guid partitions table. OK and Apply. We have the disk ready for the installation.

 

-Open the dmg leopard image; in finder go to /Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/packages and double click on OSinstall.mpkg, so install leo in the disk you partitioned before: it will take 5-10 minutes.

 

-Applying the postpatch:

 

-download ga945.zip and extract it in your desktop: we´ll have two files and two directories( efi.sh, postpatch.sh and postpatch and efiv8 and ALC888Audio.pkg)

 

-open disk utilities and select the disk where you installed leo. Then click in info and take note of the disk identifier,in my case disk0s2.

 

-with text editor open postpatch.sh and change these lines with the correct info:

 

PATCH="/Users/XXX/Desktop/leopatch"---xxx is the name of the user

LEO="/Volumes/XXX"---xxx is the name of the volume

 

close and save it

 

-open terminal and login as root (sudo -s) and drag the postpatch.sh into the window, hit enter (it will ask to delete some kext, click yes but when reboot select no). Close terminal and eject leo image.

 

-go to disk utils and select again the disk and click on umount,

 

-open with text edit efi.sh and change the values (in my case disk0s2):

 

PATCH="/Users/XXX/Desktop/pc_efi_v80" xxx--name of user# path to EFI v 7.2

EFI="/dev/rdisk0s2" # the drive for EFI

DRIVE="/dev/disk0" # drive where EFI is

 

-open again terminal (sudo -s again) and drag the efi.sh to the terminal window. hit enter. When finished you can reboot and change bios setting to boot into the new leopard. Once you are in install the sound driver.

 

Important:

 

The leopatch directory contains the necesary drivers to make your system works,

 

Appleacpiplatform

applesmbios.kext

dsmos,kext

these three can not be deleted and i added modified IO80211Family.kext for wireless card, IOnetworkingfamily.kext for reboot fix and time machine fix (i think, i don´t use it), nvinject for the grf card and siliconimage3132.kext for the raid 0.

For example If you have this mobo without any card installed apply the patch with appleacpiplatform,applesmbios,dsmos and ionetworkingfamily and later install the audio driver and your system will work without problems.

 

 

I think that this can be applied to almost every mobo so the only thing to change is the leopatch directory that must include the necessary kexts to make leo work.

 

With this method and this mobo you´ll have a fully working leopard installation with vanilla kernel

 

Now lets say im planning to install leo in other pc or i´m going to update my system with a new mobo, just plug the disk in my system, download the drivers, install, apply patches and unplug the hd.

 

If you got those drivers that make your system work from a original leo dvd we can put all of them in this post. If not I hope this guide may help someone.
