So I have a kind of small problem. My Windows XP Professional works just fine, but I notice that sometimes for certain games, I run them, and it tells me I don't meet the specific recommendation, but I am usually able to just continue, and it works just fine. So it's just alerting me to that, but I know it's wrong. But then for some games, like the Sims 2, it requires Direct X 9.0c, which I know I have, as when I open it in dxdiag, it says so. But when I start the game, it tells me please make sure it's installed, and then terminates. I've tried various solutions, gone through many forums, and no solution yet. But my main problem here, and it is of course a little more appropriate to this section of the forum, is that it occurred to me to try and update my NVIDIA 8600 GT driver, since that was one of the possible solutions given. I went to the site, and downloaded the driver update, but when I went to install it, it told me there were no recognizable drivers that the update would work with, even though in my dxdiag it says that my graphics card is the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT, and even the little icon is in my toolbar. It seems that all this falls under the category of reduced performance, so I was wondering if somewhere in windows or in mac os is it possible to change or alter the resources made available to each OS so that, let's say, I can allocate a certain amount of RAM to my Windows when it runs, or make it so it recognizes my graphics card. I'm afraid of Windows Update because after I install it, it always disables the Bootcamp icon from my toolbar, and disables my wireless connection, as well as slowing my performance. I also really don't want to upgrade again to Vista, though Windows Update didn't seem to alter any of the performance there, but I just didn't like Vista overall. If anyone can help me out with anything that I've mentioned here I would greatly, greatly, appreciate it.
