Wayfarer247
Alright, so there is the scenario. I got a computer with Vista on it, and began to hate it. So, I Dualbooted it with Ubuntu. That made me happy. However, Ubuntu can't play all the games I wish it could, even with Wine. So, I want to install XP on the computer as well. At the moment, I have OS X Leopard on the computer, but it stilll has a few bugs to be worked out (internet). The problem? I get a Blue Screen of Death while trying to install XP. Put in to installation CD, boot up, it starts loading drivers and other infromation, and I get the BSOD right as it begins initiallizing the partitioner, or where I want to install XP. I asked around, and my Brother said that it was caused by the fact that XP and Vista use slightly different, but incompatible filesystems, so the second XP sees Vista, it freaks out and kills itself. I can beleive this, but none of the guides I have seen on the internet account of this when dualbooting the 2. So, is there anyway I could get XP onto my computer, (Quad boot my computer) and get around the BSOD when trying to install XP? I have 2 250GB hard drives, and I have a 25GB space set up on the same hard drive as Vista. The other hard drive has OS X, and Ubuntu on it. I also have a 500GB external Hard drive, but would prefer not to install XP on that. Ideas? Suggestions? apowerr
I know this won't help you solve your issue but: why do you want XP and Vista? Why not just get rid of Vista, and install XP? Or keep Vista, really theres guides you can follow to make it use a lot less RM and resources if your concerned with performance. Plus most new games that are coming out will support DX10, so you should prolly keep Vista around. Maybe you could partition that free 25GB space to NTFS with Vista and try installing XP? (doubt that will work). Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87432-xp-installation-bsod/#findComment-622856 Share on other sites
Wayfarer247
Really, I don't need XP. But I have always wanted my computer to have all 4 OS, and right now, I am as close as I have ever come. I think it will be a statement to the world that I have them all, and it will allow me to do, pretty much anything. Also, there are a few games which I can't use in Vista, for one reason or another, and it would be nice just to let them run in their native environment. Don't think of it as a necessity, think of is as a challenge. With that said, does anyone still know what I get the BSOD? Lol....
