BIOS no longer finds hard drives after hard restart

I just tried to install 10.5.1 with Kalyway DVD. I got into the installer, selected one of the partitions on one of the P-ATA drives I have and had the install going. After a while, the installer gave me a message saying install failed and told me to restart and try again. I quit the installer, waited for it to shut everything down. It was stuck at the Continue message for a long time so I pushed the reset button. However, after that, all my P-ATA hard drives won't show up anymore in BIOS. The SATA hard drive still shows up, but the system doesn't boot anymore; even though I have Windows installed on the SATA drive. Even if I hit F8 for the boot menu, nothing shows up.

Any one have any idea how to fix this?

*EDIT*

Somehow, after turning off my system for an hour or so fixed it. Not sure if it'll recur or not. Anyone care to explain what exactly happened so I know what not to do next time? Thanks!
