I am kinda noob at this but I have been trying and retrying for hours to get this to install. But to no avail so I though I try my luck and post here. I realize its quite a common problem but everytime I try to install it gets to a point and repeatadly prints "Still waiting for root device." My specs are as follows if they will help.

Laptop - Gateway MT3705

Processor: Intel Core Duo T2250

Motherboard (from cpu-z):

Chipset (ATI) - RS400/RC400/RC410

Southbridge (ATI) - SB400

Video Card: ATI Xpress 200M

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this error? Thankyou for any help. Just a heads up I know nothing about the new Macs so if you can help itwould be great if you could explain...slowly.

if you happen to have read my other thread. I did a search on kalyway, or installing kalyway on dell, I found a few things, but not what i was needing to be answered. everyone here likes to be greedy so no ones gonna get an answer if its a n00b question to them. I've read the successful install thread, kalyway guide, didn't understand what I needed to do still. I wouldn't be asking here if I knew what to do or have read the guide and understood it.

Triplehelix please stop hijacking my thread...I did not feel bad and you made that post like 3 minutes after I created the thread I am patient if I don't get help I will just suck it up and move on. So unless your reply is going to be something useful with all due respect don't flood the thread with whining.

I also have the Gateway MT3705 and have tried the Kalyway, ToH, JaS, and iAtkos releases. The iAtkos will install but I can't boot it. I can install JaS 10.4.8 but then I can not upgrade to leopard from it. For the leopard Kalyway, Jas, and ToH releases I just get the "Still waiting for root device"

Well, I'm new to this too, and I had that error, but I got past it. I just finished installing iAtkos about 2 hours ago. Basically, to "fix" the still waiting for root device error, just try to boot it a bunch of times. Thats what did it for me. It may not be a fix, but hey, at least it works.

I have an MT3707 and had the same problem of waiting for root device. I got around it by using an enternal DVD ROM (dont go out and buy an external DVD rom just for this, use your old 3.5" PATA USB enclosure & a DVD ROM instead). But my new problem is Disk Utility doesn't see any hard drive for the OS to install.

Any idea?

Thanks.

@ArticohkeBill : You need the ATI SB400 drivers.

If you google VIA-SB drivers or

AppleVIAATA.kext

and

IOATAFamily.kext.

You can use TransMac to inject the kexts into the dvd.

I have ATi SB600

But the same drivers should work for ATi SB400.

Make sure you have another copy of the image that you are using!

ALSO! MAKE SURE YOU DELETE THE EXTENSIONS.MKEXT FROM THE DVD AFTER INJECTING!!!

MT3705 here as well with the same problem of Still waiting for root....

iAtkos can get into the gray loading screen, kalyway, and leo4all wont get past the Still waiting promt.

I see a few people say to use an external usb dvd rom drive to install, I took out my dvd-r drive from my

desktop and tried it but I still received the Still waiting error. The Bios on this system is extremely limited,

little to no custom options...So that is not an option...

I took apart the laptop today, the HDD is an "Enhanced IDE" drive, but I think the DVD drive is SATA, has

an odd plugin I havent seen before, but I dont dismantle many laptops. Doesn't look like a normal Sata

connection.

Soooooo I am at my whits end here, think I just may need to give this up... I am an experienced pc user,

but this is my first dive into non-M$ software.... Leaving a bitter taste in my mouth allready.
