Hey Guys,

I managed to score a G5 case (brand new) off australian ebay for $170AU which I was happy with.

I have read over all the different topics and stickies in the forum and have decided to go an ATX motherboard tray style mod but I just wanted to find out about the front panel.

From what I have read the firewire doesn't have a grounding cable or am I wrong - I'm optimistic that someone will have it all up and running but I just wanted to find out for sure to see what I have got to work with.

So the question is;

Does power, usb, firewire and audio work on the front panel from an ATX board?

If it makes any difference the board I will be using is a P35-DS3P.

Cheers guys.

the firewire DOES have a ground cable, but the power button doesn't have a ground cable. the G5 front PCB grounds the power button through the firewire VGND.... other than that some data cables are reversed.... and power and LED are reversed....

just use my diagram here and you'll be set.

  • 2 months later...

ok look at page 14 on how to fit a g5..... and nervous chimp made a diagram, so there is 18 pins on the cable and each one corresponds to a cable on the pc. like a 13 Power and 14 is led so you solder the wire that has that corressponds with the pc wire.

look at your asus motherboard manual it has a whole diagram of the audio usd firewire and power.

How do i count it?

Can so add the numbers to the pic?

No idea which number refers to which connector

there is 18 pins each of them connect to one of the wires you find diagram on the internet for which one connects to which

yes you should the 25v the one that says true ground grounds both firewire pwr and led

Thank you very much. Rewired all the cables. Everything is working fine now while in Windows on Gygabyte G33M-DS2R. When using OS X Power button does not make a machine go to sleep and audio from front panel does not work. At first Audio out did not work in windows as well, had to make some tweaks in the Audio Driver Control Panel.
