thecoolone
My comp configuration is Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz HT 2GB DDR RAM 200 GB SATA HDD Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family Video card I have already have 3 OS'es installed on the single HDD, XP, CentOS and Ubuntu. After coming across Kalyway's OS X torrent i figured why not have 4 OS instead of 3 The way i have partitioned my HDD is 10GB NTFS for XP 12GB EXT3 for CentOS 11GB EXT3 for Ubuntu 2GB SWAP and the rest as a seperate drive(E) on windows. After downloading the Kalyway's iso, i created an additional 11GB FAT32 paritition from the (E:) drive using Partition Magic and made this partition as active. Then i tried to boot Kalyway's disk and everything works fine and the installation of OS X begins, but here is where the problem begins. After a few minutes i get an "Instal Error" because it couldnt write a particular file and forces me to restart. I even tried using the Disk Utility to erase the disk and format it as Mac OS extended (Journaled) but after erasing, the filesystem assigned to it was FAT and not Mac OS extended . And after the first Erase it wont allow me to mount that partition again until i re-Erased it again as FAT. I again tried the whole procedure from the start and still got the same error. And secondly why doesnt Disk Utility convert my partition into Mac OS extended (Journaled). Is the problem with the Installation DVD or with my HDD's configuration. Any suggestions is appreciated. sarfa777
I am currently working on setting up my GX280. After playing around with each OS seperatly I'm trying to multi-boot XP Pro/Ubuntu 7.10/OSx86 10.5.1. I know that the iATKOS v1.0i R2 works on the GX280. Everything works fine other than getting OSX to boot without needing the DVD in the drive. Also you have to do the hack to get the onboard Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx nic to work, but you can not define the MAC address for the nic because it locks up OSX when you do. Try the iATKOS version. Make sure it is the R2 version. ON A SIDE NOTE: I've seen CentOS being in several people's multiboot configs. What is it about this flavor that alot of people are jumping to it for? thecoolone
Thanks sarfa for your suggestion. After a day of frustration, i just decided to begin from scratch. So i downloaded JaS 10.4.8 ISO re-paritioned my whole hdd, and then first installed Mac, then XP followed by CentOS and finally Ubuntu. Have setup grub to allow multi-OS boot for all these different OS'es. But one problem that im facing with JaS 10.4.8 is that it doesnt recognize my Ethernet card, which basically restricts my access to the internet inside the Mac OS. Is there any quick fix drivers to detect the Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx NIC on a Mac. What hack did you use to get it to work. And regarding your question of people having CentOS in their multiboot configs, the reason is that CentOS is built on the same code as RHEL. And since Red Hat is one of the well known and stable distro's out there, having an OS that is a fork of it which is freely available is a big draw. Another draw of CentOS is that its kernel comes built in with Xen, a virtualization application. sarfa777
I made a guide for how I install on the GX280. You can see it here Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86197-installing-os-x-on-dell-optiplex-280/#findComment-618244 Share on other sites
thecoolone
Thanks for the guide. Just out of curiosity have you tried installing Kalyway on your system. Does the install complete successfully ?? My install fails at 99%(darn) giving some weird error that it wasnt able to save some System.Bootstramp* error Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86197-installing-os-x-on-dell-optiplex-280/#findComment-618432 Share on other sites
sarfa777
I tried Kalyway 10.5.1 this morning, I chose EFI MBR and Vanilla kernel, and it wouldn't boot. I may have the config wrong but it just didn't like the machine. I may play around with Kalyway more later this week if I get a chance. I've read that people don't have the sleep issue with Kalyway that we have with iATKOS. But to be honest, I'm not that worried about it because sleep mode is something I have never and probably will never use. It's either on or it's off.
