brennankeller
i searched for this but couldn't find anything. when i was using 10.4.1 my usb worked fine, then i upgraded to 10.4.3 f1111a and its not working at all. it will detect when my computer is booting (i can tell since my iPod has that don't disconnect screen, and my usb hub lights up) then it all cuts out as soon as OS X is up and running. any help would be great system: Dell Latitude c640 p4 1.6 SEE2 512 mb Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/8614-usb-problems/ Share on other sites
R. Bear Helms
I believe the USB support is a function of the chipset on the motherboard. I don't know why an older release would work and a younger one not - but it could be that they started trimming the release so it started to approach hardware dependency. If this system doesn't feature a USB chipset compatible with the Intel Reference Platform used to test 1111a, that must be what's wrong. USB chips are known to shut down if power drain on them is too great. Try unplugging all but keyboard and mouse (assuming these are USB) and boot, then one by one add your hub and peripherals and see if this helps. OSx86 can boot without a mouse present, and you can plug in a USB mouse post boot and it usually works. It does at least with a Logitech model I have.
