Hi all

I followed this guide to try os x out.

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...le_And_Accurate

I really would like to have a mac but first of all I'd like to test the system before investing money into a new apple computer.

Well, everything worked well. I am able to boot into os x in a early stage. The apple logo and the rotating circle appear. But then a small icon is shown, simmilar to a stop symbol :hysterical:

I rebooted my computer and started os x in verbose mode (with the "-v" option).

It loads some stuff and then:

Extension "com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass" has no kernel dependency.

After a while a new line appears:

Still waiting for root device

After this nothing happens no more.

Do you have an idea what to do? I'd really like to take a look at os x...

Thank you all!

I am using this hardware:

Motherboard: ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe

Graphiccard: ASUS Geforce 6200

CPU: INtel Pentium4 Dual Core 2.8GhZ

2gb DDR2 of Ram

the harddisk where os x is installed is an IDE 120gb. The chain0 file located in windows xp is on a s-ata raid0(two sata harddisks, splitted)

No, I am installing on an internal IDE harddisk. The vmware image is well running on my computer, but its performance is not very well...

I installed os x using "dd" on windows and copy the content of the vmware image to a partition. the same way it is described in the above link to the guide.

here u might have included only the partition on which u want to install the Mac OS.

now i suggest to include all partitions on the hard drive(complete hard disk) so that the Mac Installer inside VMWare gains knowledge about the existing partitions on the hard drive.

alternatively, u can follow this post http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=8550

thanx

well, I'm installing on a 120gb hardisk with only one partition. It's 6gb big. I will try to create a 120gb partition and reinstall os x using vmware again. You think this would help?

Remo

i think that u have mistaken my instructions.

here alternatively, u can try installing mac os x first via VMware with the help of some another machine on the primary partition.

since Mac OS X is not processor specific and then afterwords connecting it to u'r system and then installing win xp on it. since win xp is processor specific and then i'm sure, u can boot into mac os with the help of chain0.

suggestion:

kindly allocate a partition for mac os x above 10gigs, in order to stay in touch with latest softwares & updates.

thank u

I dont get this... Delete win xp and os x, copy the vmware image using "dd" from another maschine over the network to the primary partition of my computer?

I don't think it has something to do with processor specific stuff. darwin is able to load -> the disk is readable, otherwise darwin would not boot. But then os x does not see the disk.

I found somethin on the net about jumpers. So I changed the jumpers of the IDE disk where os x is installed on to master, but it did not help...

Maybe I have to change boot order in bios?

I don't have a direct answer to the base problem at the beginning of this thread. However, I was able to install and boot OS x86 natively. The following are the basic steps taken:

1) Get ISO of the 1111a release.

2) Run the Maxxuss patch to make this ISO bootable/work on many more Intel platforms.

3) Boot the resulting DVD created from this ISO.

4) Once the installer boots up, I went to the menu bar at the top of the screen and selected the Disk Utility.

5) I made special care to make sure the disk I selected in the Disk Utility window was the fresh new IDE drive I had added to the case for the specific purpose of booting and running OSx86. I'd read about the problems using a split partition, so I just dug up a spare IDE drive, configured it as slave, added it to my IDE chain, then changed BIOS so the boot sequence for hard drives STARTS with that slave.

6) I had Disk Utility create 1 partition and erase the new drive, creating an OS X journaled drive.

7) I quit Disk Utility and resumed setup.

8) I told setup to install onto the volume I just made. Without the steps involving Disk Utility, there would have been NO volumes available for installing OS X.

9) I went through some customizing steps prior to install - removed language translations and most printer drivers, and enabled loading X11.

10) I waited about 50 minutes for the OS X install to complete.

11) I let the system restart, and OS X loaded. Voila.

There's a windows application that can convert DMG image files into ISO format. The original 1111a DMG file you'll have to google up - it's not legal to share it, so you may have to go down some of the dark alleys of the net... Good keywords: 8f1111, 8f1111a, dmg, dtk, os +x

first of all let me correct u.

here we are discussing here about installing the mac os x natively from a bootable & usable dvd that u already know how to obtain and how to patch it.

from VMWare, u can directly install Mac OS X directly by physically connecting to the computer from where u want to install the OS X via VMWare.

then connect the hard drive back to u'r system.

all this can also be done if u'r having only the installable ISO.

thanx

Hi Chris

Which Chipset do you have? My motherboard is using:

Northbridge: Intel 945P Memory Controller Hub/MCH)

Southbridge: Intel ICH7R

I have a Compaq Presario R4000 Laptop. My graphics chipset was apparently not compatible

(Ati Radeon Xpress)
