musicmannetje
Just one thing that popped into mind just now: After installing the KalyWay DVD, the software update comes up with updates for OSX itself. Can these updates just be installed, even running on an Intel platform or are they just for the native MAC/Apple OSX installations? Thanx. Pat. rohall
I heard that with the vanilla kernel these updates will most likely work. I have NOT confirmed this, but I do plan on giving it a shot once I've backed up a few more of my important files. I'm also running the Kalway DVD and will let you know how things work out Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/85724-apple-software-upgrade-will-it-work/#findComment-608348 Share on other sites
Patrik
Hey guys Just did an install with iAtkos today on my Acer Aspire 5630. It got GMA950, realtek alc883, ICH-7, C2D@1,66GHz, broadcom 440 network, intel 3945 wireless (not working). Running kernel 9.1.0 with pc_efiv8, GUID. Got Tiger 4.11 on the first partition and Leo 5.1 on the second. Ran all updates from apple on both of them and it all works fine. Looking to get sleep to work when closing the lid now. Got some minor graphical artifacts when moving the cursor, for example it doesn't change back from hand to pointer or the opposite but that's just in Leo. So atleast to me it seem to work with updates from apple and the vanilla kernel. mtotho
yet another case of ppl who dont look around. First of all, you didnt tell us if u chose vanilla kernel in ur install. Secondly you didnt tell us ur specs. Yes. Software update works perfectly on computers that have vanilla/efi installed. musicmannetje
yet another case of ppl who dont look around. First of all, you didnt tell us if u chose vanilla kernel in ur install. Secondly you didnt tell us ur specs. Yes. Software update works perfectly on computers that have vanilla/efi installed. Oh, excuse me for being new to this and asking blunt questions. I have not checked the vanilla kernel options during the installation, because when I did, the installation was broken off at about 65 procent (with 17 minutes left for installation) and rebooted. The only way to get the leopard on my system was without the vanilla options. As far as the system i use: an HP NX7010, Intel Centrino 1,7GHz and 512MB memory. So, judging by your comment, without the vanilla options, software updates will not work. It's a good thing to know such things.. Thanx. Pat. Colonel Badger
I too am interested in the answer to this question. I'm running a patched SSE 2 kernel on a Dell Precision M70 (iAtkos). Can I apply the software updates and ignore the OSX updates safely? mark. rohall
Ok so it went well! No problems at all except that after the update I had to manually restart the computer.... I'm using the Vanilla Kernel with EFI. Gigabyte-GA-965G-DS3 Core 2 Duo E6600 8600GT 2x160gb Sata Drives. Colonel Badger
OK. But if you're using a patched Kernel, is it still safe to apply the application updates, as long as we don't update the OS ? rohall
I believe so. I've had no trouble with application updates whatsoever and they really shouldn't be touching your kernel. You could also check out the update details and see what is specifically (or most likely) being modified. Let us know if you give it a shot and if so how things work out. rdougan
I can't remember if I selected it or not. Is there a way of checking? rohall
I know it tells me for a second while booting that I'm running the Vanilla kernel so you could probably simply check by restarting. You might also be able to use the terminal command "uname -a" and compare the output to the following (which I obtained from my system running a vanilla kernel with efi): Darwin Ricks-Super-Mac.local 9.1.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Wed Oct 31 17:46:22 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228.0.2~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 Let me know how things work out Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/85724-apple-software-upgrade-will-it-work/#findComment-610045 Share on other sites
rdougan
I got: Darwin robert-pc.home 9.1.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Wed Oct 31 17:46:22 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228.0.2~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 Which seems to be the same as yours, so it must be vanilla. Yay. What was does major updates work, eg 10.5.2?
