Hello.

I have tried to install Kalyway Leopard on my PC, but I have never succeded... I keep getting weird errors.

First, my specs:

Asus P5N-E-SLI

video: Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT (256 MB GDDR3)

1GB RAM

Intel Core2Duo E4500 2.2 GHz

Samsung 250 GB HDD (SATA II)

IDE DVDRW Asus

USB Mouse, Ps2 keyboard

OK. I first started to install Leopard yesterday. I have burned the image on a DVD+RW disc, using 4X.

I have created a 30 GB partition for Leopard using Windows (i have formatted it NTFS, and I would later erase it using Disk Utility)

I have enabled Execute Disable bit, and disabled Limit CPUID max value. Jmicron SATA controller was enabled.

I always used -v because I like to see what is happening.

The DVD would show "Still waiting for root device". I have tried it 3 times, and the third time, it finally booted (keyboard didn't work... i have also tried ps2 keyboard+ps2 mouse only, but that caused them both not to work. So I decided to only use the mouse)

I went into Disk Utility, selected the third partition, and then the mouse cursor changed to a spinning ball. Then, it stayed like that for aprox. half an hour, until I decided to reboot it.

After that, I booted again, went into disk utility, and quickly chose the partition, chose erase, HFS+ journaled, and OK. Disk utility was saying "Preparing to erase" and did nothing... The mouse cursor was a regular arrow for 2-3 minutes, and then it changed to the spinning ball. I have waited half an hour, and restarted...

The closest I got to installing was this: I have booted again, I have not chose Disk Utility, and went ahead with the wizard. I have chosen the third partition, but the wizard told me that it couldn't install there. So, I double-clicked it, and the wizard asked me if I want to erase it. I said OK, selected HFS+ journaled. It erased the partition, and gave it the name "Unnamed 2" (i was not asked the name, it named it automatically). After that, it began checking the DVD (i chose "skip") and began installing. After 20 seconds, it said "Installation failed" because it couldn't create a folder. I have read that volume names containing spaces won't work, so I am assuming that's the cause.

After that, I tried again to use Disk Utility. When it started, I would choose the DVD from the list, and QUICKLY uncheck "show details". Then, I switched to erase mode, and clicked my partition. I have again tried to erase it, but it again said "Preparing to erase" and nothing would happen...

OK. That was yesterday. Today, without modifying one thing, the DVD won't boot anymore. I think I have tried it 10 times, and it gives me the same errors. It says something like:

softresetata(void): ata is slow to respond

softresetata(void): ata failed to respond

A few lines later... i get a kernel panic. I can't even boot the DVD :poster_spam:

I have tried this even with JMicron SATA Controller disabled, and with different BIOS settings, and I still get the same errors...

Any suggestions would be welcome...

did you ever work it out as i am having troubles too

kalway will only boot with -x -v cpus=1

and it repeat on the keyboard screen , have tried the network plug out trick nnothing

  • 2 weeks later...

I was having similar problems with this on my motherboard (same one, P5N-E SLI). I boot with the following flags now and it seems to work: -v -s cpus=1 -legacy Someone told me the freezing might be related to a video card error. I'm not sure if that's the case or not, but I have an 8800GT and you have an 8600, so maybe, eh? Let me know if you guys get it working!

For nforce chipset try using this method:

With this I've got Leopard installed, even if with some minor bugs.

Integrated Network card of our mobo, doesn't work with Leo. Find a Realtec (8139)
