mrlopez
Anyone know if it will work? I'm trying to restore while booted to the DVD (i booted using the -vanilla flag) The original system was 10.5.1 vanilla with PC EFIv8 Timemachine restore didn't work for me. I didn't use vanilla but I did use PC EFIv8. I booted the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD and went to Disk Utility to do a restore. After the restore completed, the system would not boot. I'd like to spend more time on it but I don't want to lose my good installation. I'll have to find a spare hard drive to do more testing. errandwolfe
I had the same results as mrlopez, BUT Time Machine still saved my butt. I was not able to do a full restore direct from the backup (original system built up from BrazilMac install, was running EFI 8). What I wound up doing worked just fine though. I did a clean install with Kalyway 10.5.1. At the end of the install you are presented with the User Migration Wizard. One of the options is to migrate from a Time Machine backup. I chose this option and it worked perfectly. I just had to reinstall 1 or 2 apps that come with kext files which were not restored (though I suppose I could have just launched time machine again and restored those kext files). DiegoCJ
I made a Leopard clean install a few weeks ago and this is what I could figure out about TM backups: You can select an old time machine disk ONLY if the external HD doesn't have a TM Backup of the new OS installation; What I couldn't figure out: How to use the old Leopard TM backup in the new Leopard installation; How to import a iPhoto library (due to access restrictions) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84919-restoring-from-a-time-machine-backup/#findComment-603847 Share on other sites
