I just built a hackintosh with an Asus P5K motherboard, Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (Wolfdale, 45nm, 3GHz) processor. Everything is working great, excep Parallels which I just installed and won't even startup. I searched and found others who were able to run Parallels on recent machines, though none mentioned their processors specifically.

I know that this is a very new processor, could that be the source of the problem?

I also saw some references to things being fixed when 10.5.2 comes out which brings up another question: is it OK to run software updates on a Kalyway install?

its ok if you have efi installed, its not ok if you don't. Are you running the vanilla kernel?

I had problems with parallels too. It would freeze when I tried to create a new machine. idk why.

I decided that it was missing the english language localization, but I'm not sure if this was the fatal error.

Thanks for the input; I am running the vanilla kernel and have EFI (I think):

Caligula:~$ uname -a
Darwin Caligula.local 9.1.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Wed Oct 31 17:46:22 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228.0.2~1/RELEASE_I386 i386
Caligula:~$ kextstat |grep -i efi
  33 1 0x5aa15000 0x3000 0x2000 com.apple.driver.AppleEFIRuntime (1.1.0) <7 5 4>

That's a good thought. I'll play around and see if I can gather any more info.

I installed all of the software updates and they worked just fine. Parallels still doesn't run, though. Tailing /var/log/system.log shows this when I try to run Parallels:

Jan 31 08:30:34 Caligula [0x0-0x1c01c].com.parallels.desktop[337]: QFSFileEngine::open: No file name specified
Jan 31 08:30:36 Caligula [0x0-0x1c01c].com.parallels.desktop[337]: Parallels Desktop 3.0 critical error! Send log file ( /Library/Parallels/bugreports/parallels-fault-083036.310008.337.log ) to reports@parallels.com
Jan 31 08:30:38 Caligula ReportCrash[339]: Formulating crash report for process Parallels[337]
Jan 31 08:30:38 Caligula ReportCrash[339]: Saved crashreport to /Users/dinomite/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Parallels_2008-01-31-083036_Caligula.crash using uid: 502 gid: 20, euid: 502 egid: 20

I wonder if I should send that to Parallels and tell them I'm running a hackintosh.
