Hi all,

First, thanks to EVERYONE in these forums. I've gotten Leopard 95% working on my Dell Inspiron 1200. 90% of it worked right off the bat, which was cool. It took a while to get PCMCIA working, but between Chun-Nan and Mariusz I got it working. (A special thanks to you two guys!)

The last 5% is the wireless card. It's a Linksys card, WPC54g version 3, using a Broadcom chipset, bcm4318. It appears that people have it working in Tiger 10.4, and that there's no reason it shouldn't work since apparently the same chipset is used in the Apple airport card. However, I have tried everything and I can't get the card to work. I see the card in the System Profiler as:

pci14e4,4318:

 Function:	Network Controller
 Vendor:	Unknown
 Type:	CardBus
 Vendor ID:	5348
 Device ID:	17176

If I do "sudo dmesg | grep PCC" this is what I get:

IOPCCard info: Intel PCIC probe: TI 1510 rev 00
IOPCCard info: cs: cb_alloc(bus 3): vendor 0x14e4, device 0x4318
IOPCCard info: cs: cb_alloc(bus 3): found 1 functions
IOPCCard info: cs: cb_config(bus 3)
IOPCCard info: fn 0 bar 1: mem 0xa0002000-0xa0003fff
IOPCCard info: irq 16

As you can see, the PCMCIA card is seen appropriately.

Furthermore, I have the PCMCIA icon in the menu bar, and it shows me "Unknown Vendor | Network Controller", and while I can power it off, I can't see it as a network interface card in System Preferences.

Any suggestions as to how to get it to work would be greatly appreciated!

Which OSX86 install did you use? I Used Kalyway 10.5.1 and instaled newest IOPCC kext and it now works! No other kexts needed to be installed. Hope you figure it out, It only took me a month to get the internet on my Leo 10.5.1.

Good Luck.

Hi,

I used Kalyway 10.5.1. Where did you get the newest IOPCC kext? I'm using Chun-nan's version 6 of the IOPCCard.kext.

I've been working on the PCMCIA for a couple of weeks, and got that working, so now it's the card...

Thanks!

Hi all,

Can I ask? How on EARTH did you get that far?!?? I'm trying to install Kalyway 10.5.1 on an Inspiron 1200 and am getting nowhere. :P

The only way I can get it to boot from the DVD is to use the F8 "-v -legacy" and then in about 5 minus of scrolling text it will finally launch the installer. I used Disk Utility to format the drive as HFS+ Journaled, then I've tried many combinations of options in the "Custom" menu. Not having any luck -- when the computer goes to reboot after successful installation, it comes back up to either a light blue screen or it gets stuck in a reboot loop. I've tried selecting NO Custom options, selecting "Vanilla", etc. but so far no joy.

Help! What am I missing? Which items should I choose in the "Custom" menu for a Dell Inspiron 1200??
